dirt

Post by Andy Le Blanc »

I had some time to day to play with JSchem today, haven't had time to do much of anything lately...

Its pretty easy, not used to using it or a mouse, pencil, paper and a scanner take a fraction of the time. But it comes out OK.

Here's a dirt circuit, use it as a pre stage or in a stomp... a bypass switch etc
use a couple 12v pt from rat sack back to back and then a bridge voltage doubler,
to get the heater and plate voltages.
I left out the values, use your imagination... Its pretty fun... play with the diodes throw a tone stack at it...

Hay!

You look smart. Can you fix our amps?

They broke.

me thinks I wrongly polarized the the LED, oh dear, I was trying out simple lead tone circuits and this one surfaced after some digging on the web.
I think it was a "westbury w20" scheme, and it pops up in a jtm30...

super simple mod too, take fender V, and TMB tone stack, and turn it in to a V, TB and master, fun tweaker...

had some fun this morning sticking the pre in front of the follower in a 5f6-a circuit.
easy mod and most of the bits were in box to start, fun to see were amps evolve from.
Mine is a 6v6 powerside, deluxe trannies, tube rectifier, now its a crunchy little thing
friends don't let friends buy marshals, but the little thing is a blast, simple stable,
wire dress is stupid, easy to scab up and you can go cheesey on the parts.

I find JSchem very useful after you get a series of component stage macros loaded into the library. Over the last few years I've managed to get quite collection of tube amp 'subcircuits' loaded - and its really quick to mix'n'match these when coming up with a new schematic.

Also, you can pick up other components from other JSchem users schemes by just opening the schematic and clicking on the "Add to Library' from the component menu. I've put a bunch of components you may or may not have already onto the attached 'schematic' FWIW (I had to fool the server into accepting it by renaming the file with a .sch extension - So you need to change the file extn back to .jsch when you've downloaded it)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

that Jschem was a bit awkward at first, but the more I frig with it the easier it got.
Kinda nice , thats cool about adding components

Are there other, free, schem programs besides J Schem.?
Or is J Schem abbot the only one available.?
Thanks

haven't gotten around to it though... must be more, Ive seen a few other post here and there on TAG, My favorite is a pencil, paper and a scanner.
No fun wasting time fiddling with your software

spent some time dic-in around with the thing, I scabed up some little glass diodes off an old DVD pcb, my favorite so far, great little clipper based tone
bet you could put it in a champ sized amp, even smaller maybe, even one of those 12au7 self split things, a practice amp, its fun...

got back around to the LED, it should lite when its engaged, you should hear the content change.
you can also switch the diodes between ground and the cathode of the first stage.

also when the gain structure is too hot for what ever LED you use it will start to crash out the gain stage, series or parallel to taste to compensate.

I figured I'll eventually use push-pull pots on the gain knobs to switch things around,
the LED lights up nice and you see it flicker with signal current, crunchy fun...
