What are your impressions? If you could post a video or sound clip I'd love to check it out. Any alterations to the circuit?

BTW Rhinson is sold out of iron:( I'm checking Hammond for compatibility.
Great job!

Thanks Rgdweaver
this is a really cool different circuit, hard to stop playing it...notes ring out
Hi input sounds monstrous at gigging levels(feedback is on the edge of controllable...to some not always good)
At lower volume you can here the notes wanting to ring into feedback
Lo input even has balls, while backing off guitar sweetens up nicely.
And with not too much adjustment of treble and gain controls it
plays nice with my Strat LP SG and Jackson Soloist, all a little different
in subtle ways. The bite switch( I did the simple .1 cap) seems like a PAB boost and can have a nice effect on both inputs.

It may take some time for any clips but I'll try.(I keep telling myself to stop building and record some clips)
Built pretty much straight ahead from the schems and pics I have
capped a little brightness and added a 330pf instead of 100pf to hi input...

Running RCA 6L6gc's(no 5881 on hand) and some amperex mullard pre tubes, and the voltages are almost spot on to OEM specs.
I'm very happy with this build, while more complex in building than anticipated...its simple to adjust for multiple tonal options....blah blah blah
Then again I could be FOS... :)

Couple more things Darin:
What specs did you use for the choke?
Are you liking the orange drops for the circuit?
Any hum or noise with your layout?
Thanks man

Choke is a 10h 125ma Hammond
the OD's are what I had on hand(you can find some values of the yellow box xicons still) although I did order some NTE.47 100v for cathodes(small)
this amp is quiet...I didn't think it was working at first, had it cranked and hit a chord and about shit...

Very, very nice Darin, hope it sounds as good as it looks!

One question, did you use a 3/8 round over for the edges? they certainly look less than 1/2", could be my eyes though. Nice dove tail too!

Enjoy!

Quiet indeed! Thats one thing i noticed of mine, very friggin quiet, that and the tubes run very cool. Glad to see another SD60 build, i friggin love mine. Been running for a month or so, i went between schemos and tubes tweaking till i was happy, and happy i am! Very interesting amp, some killer tones, and the loop is incredibly transparent.
I used Ero MKT 1813's in this thing and theyre great. I looked for ages and msgd heaps of surplus guys regarding the xicon box caps, but didnt wanna buy 1000 each..
I ended up with a lower B+ on mine, i got a PT that was supposedly specd higher than it is. I get a few volts down. But if anyones interested, Heyboer have a card on it, they did the original stuff.

Nice looking rig! That is the best usage of that wood I have ever seen, ever, ever, ever. Really nice.

Thanks guys
appreciate it...The cabs are actually drawers from a local cabinet
maker(Phoenix 200 miles away). I had some help putting it together.
alvarezh...I think you are right about the 3/8 edges...
it plays great, good cleans and monster overdrives(can get a little bright). It was kinda hard to tweak because I found myself playing it for hours, then saying its good,
next day I would make a small change and do it again...(rhinson really helped a lot and led me in the right direction). Finally got close enough to put it in the cab to clear my table to start another build.
azatplayer...I was really impressed with how quiet this build was also.
I think floating the heaters really works well in this design. I used OD's
for caps I had them on hand. I think Valvestorm.com website had a few values of the Xircon caps, not sure they have them in stock. I screwed up and drilled the face plate looking at the newer SD60's with a master, so I just added a simple master off the treble pot, it seems to work OK.
I used the post 96 schem (with dual500k gain pot) rhinson says he likes the pre 96 (single gain pot) better. I may try that down the road...I think the pre 96 style is a little darker(this one can be a little on the bright side)
Did you build the pre 96 or post 96 style?
Thanks again guys...gonna try to start a 100 watt 2nd gen style next and
maybe try to re-purpose some 18 watt iron into Special Duet 86
or something kinda similar...

I started out with the pre circuit, and loved it, but as we do... i altered it to the post circuit. My issue was i didnt have any great 6L6's or 5881's. I had some in an order i was waiting on, but in the mean time i set it up around JJ KT66's.
I ended up with parts of both circuits that sounded absolutely killer. Fat and clear but so so sweet under drive. That swell off the tail of notes that blooms into feedback is simply glorious.
BUT, then i got some JJ 6L6's which Danny Russel recommended in that circuit and they were flat, lifeless. Lacking that sustaining feedback bloom.
So i returned it to stock post then pre looking for the stock sounds from the right glass. I has similar issues with EL34's, they were brighter and flatter.
Anyways im back at stock pre circuit minus the 5pf on the input and plus 100pf on the gain pot, all bite stuff hardwired on, and i love it. Its great with 34's and KT's, still a little flat with 6L6's tho i have some others in the post en route. I think maybe my issue with glass might be that im getting only 465-75V, which was surprising given the spec of the PT is 365-0-365 @300ma
WIll throw some pics up of mine soon, little different layout.

Can you tell me how well a delay or reverb works in that FX loop please?

Thanks azatplayer
love to see some pics...
I have only used RCA 6l6gc so far they sound pretty decent
I may try some new Tungsol 5881 not sure. I also have some 34's I may try
I'm running a 150pf on gain pot with a 470pf on input(pin 1) of V1. Seems like a lot but it seems to work well. I also backed the first stage 4.7k down to 2.2K. It has a nice mid growl I was looking for. Gonna let it burn for awhile then see if I really need changes. Seems to play well with different styles of guitars with simple changes to controls
surfsup
as far as the loop goes I use a Rocktron Intellifex and it sounds pretty decent/transparent not too much unlike the D-style loop only no adjustment pots.
My take is this design like many really likes volume...pushing this amp
is where it shines, or maybe letting it breath is a better term.(gotta tell
my wife that, its not loud it's just breathing really good).
Anyway I'm probably FOS but thats what I have to say about that.
