what is the alternate to 6ps polyester caps for tone???

Post by Tonegeek »

Looks like AES is not carrying these anymore except in a kit mixed with 715s. Anyone know of another source for these? I did read the sticky on SBE. GUess I will use Xicon MPP caps unless there is a new kid on the block to replace my beloved 6PS caps. :(

Man, that sucks.
That was one of the few places that still carried the 6PS caps in a lot of values.

Anybody know of another place that carries them?

Yeah those are Polypropylene film caps.

The ones the Dumble guys like are the 6PS polyester 600v.

I thought I was crazy at one point as well, I have seen parts randomly disappear from the CE site - in particular the 6PS caps. I called them and they confirmed that they were missing from the site but still available. Possible that they had a glitch and the parts were indeed missing for a time.

I emailed AES about the SBE 6PS caps.

This was their response.

Please check the site later today. We still carry these polyester film SBEs in 600v, but
at present only the 1600v in this series are appearing on the site. Something that
needs to be corrected in the switch to the new website.
So it sounds like it was just a website glitch.

That is a relief.

...wait maybe I'm not crazy then??

Or probably I still am.

Anyway we should pool our money together and buy the whole lot. Then we can send them to one of the guys over at the Solid State Amp Garage and they can be a neutral party who will send us each our allotted caps as we need them.

Rumor has it 6PS series bring out the sparkle of the crystal lattice in a LAB 5 and a JC-120. Didn't BB King get his LAB 5 recapped with them?

I called AES too, the guy asked me how many "pounds" of the 6PS caps I wanted. So they have good stock; he had the SKU right.

I'm happy that I found this post, the orange drops were the final parts I need for my new Dumble build.

Yep they are back on the site- whew!!!. I was all set to try the Polyester Cornell-Dubilier ones that Mouser has: http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.asp ... 630V.047-F

anyone tried these? It might be good to know what works besides the PS ones. I use xicon MPP in some positions but not tried them throughout the amp.
