Re: Name Your Tool Fantasy
It's more than $200, but I really want a tube tester, to take the mystery out of that part of the equation.
Re: Name Your Tool Fantasy
+1 on the drillpress, indispensable, why did i wait so long to get one? You only need a bench top model for chassis and cab construction so you should have a good chunk of change left for other tool purchases.

You can also find drill press with burnt out motors and set it up for turret/eyelet board making like I did.
The good one is in the garage.

Blows the budget, but I would love to have a good vertical knee mill and a TIG welder....

The milling machine has been a great help, but only because I chose to machine chassis instead of buying them like a sane person.
If you cut your own holes, there is nothing like a DRO to put them exactly where they should be.

Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

I had a pair of auto strippers but they won't strip Teflon wire.

With some friends on an Italian forum we are developing a tube tester with smps supplies and Arduino interface to a pc, to obtain graphs directly on it. We think to stay under the 200$ limit. When we'll have finished, I'll be glad to share the link to the project.telentubes wrote:It's more than $200, but I really want a tube tester, to take the mystery out of that part of the equation.

That Stripax model is actually not recommended for teflon use, but I persist.Structo wrote:I had a pair of auto strippers but they won't strip Teflon wire.
My teflon use is so minimal. (For Teflon the thermo stripper would be best.)
It will strip it, but not totally cleanly - there are always two small whiskers of teflon left. It is probably very naughty of me and maybe shortening the life of the blades.
I appreciate that the wire does not get nicked.
Best, tony

I've been looking for some zircon encrusted tweezers for years now.

For what? I have a Craftsman/Atlas 6" and have yet to use it for anything useful. It's a great weight to keep stuff from blowing away.....Prairie Dawg wrote:A smallish bench lathe would be very nice.
