Name Your Tool Fantasy

Post by The New Steve H »

If you felt like blowing $150-$200 on a tool to make amp-building easier, what would it be?
Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

If I didn't have them already, it would be Greenlee hole punches for the tube sockets, cap cans, etc. Life is soooo much easier with those. Gone are the days of drilling a smaller hole and then getting western with a rat tail file.

If you don't have a scope and signal generator, that would be my next choice. You can probably pickup up a 20 Mhz scope pretty cheap.

A good soldering iron is worth it's weight in gold.

Strain relief pliers on Ebay, $7 shipped.
I bought a pair and they work great.
$2.99 plus $3.99 shipping.
No reason not to buy now.

Search for strain relief pliers.

I would love to find a cheap punch for the ac socket.

I would like to get a good bias tool and a variac. My bias tool is just a cheap set of socket that plug into the meter.Isnt there one that gives you the plate voltage then you go to the site to get the milliamps setting. Its the one that you dont hook up to you meter.Im not sure what brand it is but I think they may have stopped making this one.My buddy has one and its the best.As far as a variac they aren't too pricey on ebay but it would be a nice thing to have.I also want to have a speaker plugged into my work bench for testing.
All in good time.Mikey I may have an extra eico tube tester to trade or sell. Its the big one with the roller paper thingy.

My expensive tool fantasy includes politicians and $900 hammers, but it's way too messy to describe. Basically we strip them down to underpants, hop them up on PCP, lock them in an arena sized cage.. and issue each a Mil-spec hammer.

I would also like some device that strips every kind of wire cleanly, and works longer than one job.

What I would really like is a dedicated work area with a bench.

For now it's either on the floor of my guitar room or on the kitchen table.

I don't have CNC! I think I may be too stupid to use it.

I had no idea Heyco made pliers. I will be ordering them within the next 45 seconds. I am not a fan of computer cords.

I'm thinking I should get a Fluke 115.

A smallish bench lathe would be very nice.
