D-Lite layout discrepancies

Post by DaveBo32 »

I noticed that the D-Lite layout and BOM shows two 5uf Caps being used for the mid preamp section, but when I check out people's build pics they are using two 4.7uf Caps. What's correct :?: I have both options available. Also some of the resistor values are qurky. Ex. 150k, 180k, 220k (RN65 types) But everyones builds show 151K, 182K, 221K. I figure that was because that is all that was available in (RN65 types). I went ahead an copied what everyone used for resistors. But the Caps :? Is it better to use the 5uf or 4.7uf, is there a noticable difference :?: I'm almost done..... 8)

Thanks

The cap and resistor discrepancies are just based on "brand." As you noted, RN65s are available in 221k, 181k, etc. If you're using Sprague Atoms, then 5uF is correct. If using Xicon, Nichicon, etc., then 4.7uF is correct. Based on tolerance, you'll find very little difference between the measured values of 5.0uF vs 4.7uF.

It depends on how sensitive your ear is. I typicaly can't hear a difference between the 4.7 and 5's.

I can hear the difference between the cheepy's and decent caps. I once bought a bunch of no-name caps and they degraded the tone dramatically.

I can't make out something in the layout, I'm ready to power this thing up.
The lead coming off the 270pf Cap that is mounted between the switch and Volume pot's center lug, does it continue to the groung buss? In the layout it looks like it may. Can someone clear that up for me, that would be great.

Thanks,

Hey Dave,
It does not continue to the ground buss.

Good luck!

Just checking, the presence cap is 1uF and not 0.1uF as in most presence pots?
Thanks
