Post by wsaraceni »

everyone on this board probably has 1 or 2 sets lying around. what did you build with them?

I used a precious Stancor A-3801 in this: http://home.comcast.net/~psymonds/Maxie-tone.htm
Wasn't my cup of tea, but Maxie loved it. It was made to order. Order was for two inputs, maximum clean head room, no distortion.

so if all goes well, by sunday, i'll be firing it up for the first time. hopefully it works. it would be nice to have an amp fully working for me.

this is essentially a dr z z28 preamp into an express PI/PA section with toneslut iron.

not sure how much tweaking will be needed or what, but hopefully it wont be too much.

wish me luck!

Mostly either four EL84 Reverb Rockets or Octal Reverb Rockets. But also on day two of a BF Champ JCM800 with TW iron.

Oh yeah almost forgot about the conversion of a Ceriatone Express into a Marshall #39 four tube gain preamp by Darkbluemurder (DBM).

nice. i was thinking of gutting my 18 watt lite iib and trying something more voxy. i was thinking an 18 watt stang ray or z wreck but that may be a little too technical for me.

hmmm. any other suggestions guys. building my el84 amp now. while I'm waiting for parts I'm thinking of other stuff i may like.

i'd like to do something cool and different. higher gain like the hot cat. modern high gain like the bogner uberschall type thing. a dumbly type amp like the john mayer two rock? i don't know what the possibilities are yet

A while back I built the DBM #39 Marshall four tube high gain out of a Ceriatone Express.

thats cool. im glad i decided to hold off on this project. it gives me more time to think about what i'd like to do. i'd like to get a little more complicated with this build to continue to learn.

i was thinking dr z ef86 front end into an liverpool/rocket poweramp/pi. switchable solid state/tube rectified. volume, treble, bass, presence, hi cut

maybe VVR.

then i think about something that is more clean, but i think bigger transfomers and 6l6 would work better for that.

im trying to figure out something to complement my current stuff

komet 60 (real)
mini z (real)
18 watt rocket/z-wreck/ac-30 (in progress, my build)
fender blues jr 5e3 conversion (future in progress, most parts sourced)

still not decided. i'd hate to do a route 66 type amp since it'll cost me about the same price in parts as it will to just buy a used one.

i was thinking jtm45 style but i think the voltage will be a little low. wouldn't mind some beano tone though

maybe a dual 6v6 amp?

still looking for suggestions.

What about Mark Huss's 6v6 Plexi if you were thinking JTM type tones?

nice. what OT were you using? that might be a nice project since i can order chassis, headcab, and faceplates. might be really nice when finsihed. were you using a tube rectifier with the 300-0-300? or solid state? and obviously kt66 or el34?

my original '67 JTM45 has a low B+. Responds to guitar vol control like an Express. Somewhere in Ken's writings, he discusses his take on Marshalls. I need to find that again.
I thnk they are Drakes
