Only reason I ask is because that particular wire is sensitive to lead dress. I had actually thought about doing that but never did in the end. Certainly keeps the wire clear.
Liverpools rock! So,so much fun......

Holy Cow, All I can say is wow. Everyone please Welcome "Leah" the newest
addition to my amp collection. She is the first of three Liverpools arriving at my house. Just powered her up on the variac and checked voltages and looked for smoke, wow all looked good. Installed tubes and powered her up again, plugged in a guitar and killer sound and lots of it. Thanks rj and everyone on the forum for parts, info, encouragement and help. This is a dream come true for me to build this first true TW style amp. Two to go and I am sure some tweaking, but Leah lives.

Nice! Good weekend, nah? I feel all happy and fulfilled.

Here is a quick sound file of the amp I did in garage band today. Amp at about 2:00 volume tones, presence flat. sm57 mic on 4x12 with vintage 30's. Used my self built 57 telecaster with Barden style pickups.
Not great but gives an idea of the sound of the amp.

Re: Ready to start new build, It's a Liverpool clone.....x3?????
Almost ready to start work on the other two amps now. Have been giving this amp a fair shakedown. Had a couple of issues with the amp, but I think I have them worked out. First was the amp red plated a quad of TAD EL84s after about 2 hours of playing. Checked everything and all seemed good, I think the tubes just could not handle the extra plate voltage and current of this amp. I borrowed them from my rocket style amp and it runs lower voltages and has a lower plate dissipation. I installed a quad of 6n14n
tubes and I have not had any more issues with the output. I also found a loose solder joint on the phase inverter that was causing some problems.
Went through my stash of preamp tubes and found 3 NOS tubes that sound good in the amp. I also am finding the amp has a wider range of sounds than I thought it would, nice and clean to very high gain. I have to admit I am not used to this kind of one channel amp, but I think I will learn to enjoy it.

Started work on #2 and #3 chassis tonight. Used template to drill pilot holes and 3/4" greenlee radio chassis punch for tube socket holes. Punch seems cleaner than hole saw. Would have done more but had to play #1 Leah for about an hour after work
Have been way to busy to play like I should and through this amp it shows

Chassis 2 and 3 finish drilled and cleaned up. Sockets installed on #2. Things should start to go together quickly now. Out of town to guitar show in Ohio tomorrow, but will be able to start work on it again monday. Picking up more cherry for cabinets at show I hope.

Thanks, I am finding out these amps can be temperamental. Watch your solder joints, with very high gain of this amp and loud volume I found another solder joint on the power tubes that looked good until I got real loud..lions den wrote:Cranking away, looks good.

More work done on amp 2 today. Heaters wired, transformers mounted, VVR installed, preamp board installed, output switch, and jack wired. I like weekends(wish I did not have to do yard work,I could do more amp work)...

Well amp Two is wired up. I have to double check everything then I can power her up. Looked at picture I posted a couple of nights ago and saw a missing coupling cap(not soldered and fell off the board)so I want to check things over good. She is yet nameless, have to talk to the owner about that.
Waited on assembling amp three till I see how the VVR circuit works in this amp as liverpool number one seemed more problematic than the rocket amp I installed my first VVR circuit on.
Posted new pictures with proper tone circuit wiring?, found mistakes after first pictures posted.
Looking at 2 layout drawings and not schematic when building. Please let me know if this is not right,it is late and mistakes are easy to make.

Two down one to go. Amp two (Beverly)per the owners request Came to life tonight. Had the owner over to see the progress and watch his amp come to life.
Was it ever fun to watch and listen to him as I worked through the final steps and then powered the amp up. Then when it worked with the tubes installed, the look was priceless.
VVR circuit works great as installed and see no problem with it in amp three as installed in amp two,
I should say Beverly. I like the carbon PEC pots and Leah may get a set sometime soon? Installed 820 ohm resistor in this amp between stages and may do the same with #1. Not sure exactly why yet but this amp seems less problematic so far. The owner Ben says Beverly (his grandmother) although not an exotic girl's name was a very hard, dependable worker and that is why the amp worked so well from the start???????????????
