I’m trying to decide what my next project will be. I have an old Bell
PA I am going to re-use the chassis and transformers from. Currently,
it takes two 6L6s, five 12ax7s and a GZ34 rectifier. I’m planning on
sticking with 6L6s, but I will probably go with a SS rectifier and sag
resistor.
My first thought was to build a super reverb, but just the reverb side
and no vibrato. That would take up 4 of the nine-pin spots. On the
down side, I might have to fit the tank in a separate cabinet, which
is probably a deal breaker. I looked into a digital reverb option (the
"brick") but for various reasons I've decided against it--basically, it has to be at the input, and what's the point, then?
Other suggestions? I want to go with something that will sound good at
lower volumes, so I’m thinking something on the clean side is best.
When it’s done, it will probably go to a friend who is primarily a
jazz player, but plays the occasional oldies rock gig.
Project Suggestions?

I think that the first thing to do is to make a voltage map and see what kind of voltages you're getting and whether it's cathode or fixed bias. Locating a Sams Photofact for that amp will also provide a lot of information about the components that were used. A good single channel Fender design like a tweed Pro will probably be right up your alley.
