They're impossible to find and big bucks to recone.
They are not impossible to find, or anymore expensive to recone a vintage jensen. I had weber recone an altec a few years ago that cost about $140 all said and done with shipping, original diamond style paper cone with the aluminum dome. Still sounds better, to me, than anything new production.
They also pop up on ebay every week or so as singles. Saw an 417H sell for like $100 last week. Not too expensive, nor hard to find.
I have a few dead ones, and a few alive ones. I know I have the 8c's (75 watter), I think I have 1 or 2 417h around. I will let you know what I find, Bob. You in north jersey?

Good info. I still think the price is a bit high. Unless they're dramatically better than the other stuff mentioned it may not be worth it. $100 for the frame, $149 for the recone, $80 for an Emi, I'm still not sold.
Rough mix of my sister and me singing together. I recorded this guitar track today. 100 watt combo with Swamp Thang installed(RedPlate Black-n-Blues amp). The guitar take sucks, but I like the speaker.......

Nothin' wrong with the the guitar take except the fader could go up a smidge or two. Sounds great. Secondly: Awesome singing (both of ya)! We need a throwin' the goat emoticon for stuff like this!

I've read on some boards it is supposed to be like an EV. But I have also read it has more coloration than an EV.
$110, but only rated for 100 watts.
I've been able to score a couple of EVM12L's off of ebay for 110-120. But it takes a bit of patience.
I'm not looking for an EVM, maybe I wasn't clear, I have 3 EVM12Ls and 2 EVM15Bs. Love EVM for what they do, but I'm just not thrilled with the Bluesmaster.
I've got a couple Weber Michigans here, both ceramic and alnico. They have a highend rolloff but are great sounding speakers to me. I like them better than the Delta Pro 12. The Webers don't really sound like an EV to me but they do cover some of the same territory. They add a lot more texture to the overall sound than an EV though IMO. I really like them.
Well FWIW my test cabinet that I use with all of the amps I build is loaded with a G1265 and it has held up to several years of very loud testing with 100W amps.
We also have an original SOD combo that has a G1265 (1x12) and it has yet to explode.
More apt to cook a speaker with square waves and clipping than high power. The 65s are pretty damn rugged.

Good to know. I guess I'm gun shy because I blew so many JBLs when I was using them in twins. Damn unstable speaker but at the time I just loved that tone.

I've always thought that too but the only speakers I've blown in the past 10 years have been 2 original cone EV alnico SRO's and the both went playing in the clean channel of 100 watt Dumble type amps hammering on the 3rd fret of the A string. They must not like that C note The first one had been my test speaker for the past 20 years. I've run cranked SLO 100's and dozens of 100 watt Marshalls thru it and it always lived to tell the tale.
