Software for Layouts and schematics

Can anyone point me towards Mac software for doing layout and schematics.

I used JSchem just recently. Not perfect but for a free app it does the job. Comes with some existing library elements which you can use in your schematics etc.

I think it will open ExpressSCH files also. In which case, there are hundreds of editable schematics here:

That's brilliant for the schematics. Anything out there for layouts? ConceptDraw told me they will incorporate it into future releases and send me a Beta copy for testing, but that could be a long way off.

Sure, there are plenty of editable layouts using the same program in the EL34 World link that I posted.

Visio makes the prettiest layouts.

Visio is great, but not available for Mac as far as i know and ConceptDraw is the closest second best.

Just tried it on my Mac. It runs. You need to double-cilck the diylc.jar file. You need Java support installed on your Mac.

I use autocad for everything

not an inexpensive option, but highly recommended.

Also, I know another amp builder who does everything in Adobe Illustrator

Do you and your friend have to create a library of components though?

yeah, I made blocks for tubes resistors capacitors and diodes - didn't take very long.

the real win with autocad is the turret board layout - I measured and drew each component and placed turrets around them. The result is beautiful - especially for the big Sprague caps.

I also map out every screw hole and use the same template that I have for turrets as a drill template to mount the board to the chassis - perfection every time. Autocad is great for that kind of thing.
