5E5 Volume maxxed out with knob on 2
I have a 5E5 clone and followed the original schematic to a T. It has a 1 meg audio taper pot for the volume. Other than the amount of gain that occurs after 2, it's pretty much at full volume on 2. Is that normal for this circuit? If so, what changes can I make to give it a more gradual increase in volume from 0 to 10? And yes, I realize that my guitar has a volume knob
Thanks in advance.

That's more or less typical of that tone and volume setup. You can pretty easily modify it with a stacked pot and voice the channels each slightly differently in the bargain.
Here's what it looks like-it's built to resemble a 6G3 setup which is more controllable. I've installed it no two amps so far.
This owes nothing to Allen amps either. The information is freely available-no need to spend thirty bucks for a sheet of paper and 3 bucks worth of parts.

Thanks, PD. I wasn't getting much feedback at the other place.

Allen amps has a parts kit that does much the same thing and they're pretty alert to people snapping copies of their .pdf and distributing them.
I guess they assert their copyright to the instruction sheet they supply. It's arguable whether you can copyright an instruction sheet anyway but nevertheless I'm a believer in 'the more information freely available the better'.
However, this owes nothing to them except the fact that it has been scussed and rescussed in all the usual places which is where I got the idea and tracked this down. I believe it was developed by a now defunct amp builder-I could be wrong about that.
It's easily reversible if you decide you like instant saturation tweed tone and control it with your guitar's volume control.
I got enough parts from antique electronics supply to do half a dozen amps for less than thirty bucks shipped.
I've been wanting a 5E5 for a long time and never had the dough so I had a custom cabinet made for my Weber 5E3P Proluxe chassis that takes a 15" speaker. Pics later.

My 5E5 is a head only. I built it from an old Conn organ amp that had some good iron on it.

I now see that you have a single channel amp-maybe the way the 6G tone system works will help anyway. Old organs are the tits. I( mine 'em for everything

You are correct PD, I failed to mention that. Tweed helped me out on some of those changes and I still have the old drawing. I'm sure it will still work just fine. Thanks again.
