Looking for the right chassis

Post by jon »

I am going to be building the Warbler

I have been looking for just the right chassis for a while. I was trying to not make the vibrato unit the same size as an amp.

What I really want is an old style chassis with a cage. But not what hammond is producing more like a Traynor Dark Horse or a Mesa Trans Atlantic. Any thoughts

If you just need a two-bend shell, any machine shop in any town can whip one out for you pretty quickly. Buy the sheet (from them) and punch the holes first. As an inveterate do-it-yourselfer, I'd be looking for stuff like paper towel dispensers, medical gizmos or other well-made sheet metal objects that could be cut to size. Where you start running into complications is if you need more complex bends or flanges. sh

PS Don't rule out L-series Hammond organ amps on Ebay.

+1 for a metal shop.
Draw up an idea with dimension and get exactly what you want.

My space heater just died. Its a floor unit like this:

Has a nice pastic standoff for the heating element that is perfect for mounting garolite to. I just picked it apart. Planning to use that one day. not the same though but the grill can be chopped up for a head cab too.

There was a really clever Ebay spoof a few years back where somebody had a picture of a common bathroom heater listed as a Trainwreck Dumble (or something like that) with lots of WOWs and superlatives in the description. It wasn't intended to fool anybody but he got a lot of tongue-in-cheek questions and posted with equally outrageous answers. sh
