I can hear why people might say this amp is picky about speakers. It's all power clip which you can clearly hear.

I put my 2x12 vert slant cab with ET65's in the closet. This amp would probably do better with a small dust cap type speaker.

My free mp3 converter took a tad of bass away. My tiny closet might add a little phase cancellation.

3-Baldwin labeled Sylvanias, and 2-JJ EL34L's.

Settings are in O'clock.

Bright on 500pf

V=10:30
T=1
M=12
B=3
P=3

This thing is so loud!

A quick note: the amp doesn't get any louder past 10-11 O'clock. It just gets more distortion.

It's begging for a quad of 20w alnicos.. but so are most things!

This ipad would also benefit from a quad. What guitar is that?

I had a WGS Retro 30 that I swapped into the top spot; where I stick the mic. It's a little better. 'Same settings, except I cranked the presence.

I think the verdict is that this amp is NOT a modern articulate, high gain amp. It's way more vintage with probably the most power clip distortion out of a pair of EL34's.

I had a WGS Reaper before, but hated it because it has a real pinched midrange with the upper spike of a Vintage 30. But that would probably work even better with this amp.

I like that much better. Grips like a Vox and forward like a cranky black face.

Very good! Crazy how it cleans up, huh? Almost hifi!

You can get crystal cleans, to fat round cleans with the guitar volume. The trick is to hit the right volume position on cue!

Being a lefty, I've always used a volume pedal. I have picked up some newer guitars that wire the volume pot backwards, but 50+ years of "clockwise = louder" makes them unusable for me.

All of those Roy Buchanan type swells aren't as easy for a lefty, because the circular motion to do them turns the volume down instead of up.

Older than dirt orange sparkle and all normal lefty controls. My last name rhymes with Hendrix.

From your link, I see a Miles Hendrix. Which has to be a cruel joke. That matchup was in talks before Jimi died, and would have shook the world.

Jimi Davis doesn't have the same ring, though.

I can only dream about what a collaboration between Miles and Jimi would have produced.

Perhaps none of us were ready.
