I finally got off my lazy butt and finished one of these, it seems really nice although I haven't got a chance to gig with it and get a real verict. It only has two levels of attenuation possible but seems very transparent, maybe more so than the Alessandro Muzzle I have, which I believe is an Airbrake design exactly except for the meter. Cost less than $50 to make too, if it's more transparent than the Airbrake I'll be one happy camper, so far I like the Muzzle best of the attenuators I've tried but YMMV for sure. I had two different Mass units and hated 'em, and I know a lot of folks really like them, so who knows.
Anyone else made one of these? I'll try to post some pics later.

I put one of these together too! It seems to do the trick. I have not used any other attenuation device so I have no basis to compare sound quality with, however I do find it has a quite apparent effect on the sound.arfy wrote:I finally got off my lazy butt and finished one of these, it seems really nice although I haven't got a chance to gig with it and get a real verict. To my ears, it is not linear and kills the high end along with some dynamic. The effect increases a lot in the higher attuation mode.
That said, it gives me access to different, less aggressive tones at reasonable small studio volumes that I didn't have before, at the flick of a switch...
All in all, for the price I think it's definitely worth the effort.
what about non-inductive resistors?
well, I finally had the chance to try mine on a gig and it was OK but that's about it. I think I like the Alessandro muzzle a little better but not much. It would be nice to be able to crank the amp more but I wind up just bypassing the attenuator most of the time.
So I'm wondering if the Gerald Weber design would have more highs and such if non-inductive resistors are used-I think Dale makes them, gotta check the Mouser catalog.
Has anyone tried anything like this? I'll dig through the mouser catalog tonight and see what's available.
