really stupid question
Ok folks, lets see if i,ve got a handle on this, my V2 tube has the anodes tied together with a 100k resistor, on one side i have about 240 v, on the other anode 180ish, what would be the difference if i bypassed the 100k resistor to give the same volts on either anode, the second bit is grid triode is fed via a 1 meg resistor from the gain control, if this was lowered i would assume it would let more signal through, increasing the amount of gain available
Please point out any stupid assumpations i have made or overlooked

Re: really stupid question
I'm having a hard time visualizing this. You should probably sketch it out so we can see what you have in mind, sh

Hi there,
I think you should leave it alone. The second triode is wired as a cathode
follower which drives the tone stack.
cheers,
Paddy

Re: really stupid question
that probaly explains the low gain, i had assumed it was cascaded as a second gain sectionpaddy wrote:Hi there,

Re: really stupid question
It looks to me that amp will take pedals well. Hit it with a Fulltone OCD or some sort of overdrive, even a distortion if that's your bag.
All the best.

Re: really stupid question
its fine with mt botique Kanji OD but sounds like crap with my gv2 guvnor, then in fairness the guvnor sounds crap with most tube amps but ok with solid statealvarezh wrote:It looks to me that amp will take pedals well. Re: really stupid question
I can follow you, not all pedals sound good with all amp/guitar combinations.
Cheers!

Re: really stupid question
Yup, you are converting gain for low impedance to drive the tonestack. That is one of the most sacred designs in all ampdom. sh
Re: really stupid question
I think the modern marshall pedals sound pretty crap full stop but its ok for rehearsal, saves lumping my Mesa aroundalvarezh wrote:I can follow you, not all pedals sound good with all amp/guitar combinations.

Re: really stupid question
Looks like another gain section may be in order, i do have a spare 12 ax7 socket wired and ready to be used so i may well lok at using hald a 12ax to get a bit more gainLuthierwnc wrote:Yup, you are converting gain for low impedance to drive the tonestack. All Ceria layouts (that I have seen) contain mistakes.jestaudio wrote:Heres the ceriatone layout i,m usingLuthierwnc wrote:I'm having a hard time visualizing this. You should probably sketch it out so we can see what you have in mind, sh
Best to use a known good schematic, as layouts are derived from schematics.
Layouts should be used more as a parts positioning and real estate management tool.

Re: really stupid question
well i,ve made a few mods from the existing circuit, the major one being droping the voltage across the whole amp, reasoning being i,m using a diode rec circuit as opposed to the tube rec which was giving me slightly higher voltages, i,ve now got a reasonable 260 ish on the 12ax7s dropping to 150 ish on the first preamp tube, ive also droped the resistor on the on pin 7 on v1 from 68k to 34 k which has inceased the gain to a JCM level and improved the sound, the last mod is from el34 world dropping the 470k resistors on the PI to 330, this yet again has changed the tone a bit, for the better in my opinionrdjones wrote:All Ceria layouts (that I have seen) contain mistakes.jestaudio wrote:Heres the ceriatone layout i,m usingLuthierwnc wrote:I'm having a hard time visualizing this.
