Dumbleator Chassis

Funk, I'm curious what type of chassis enclosure you are planning to use for your Dumbleator builds. Any suggestions regarding vendors with quality pre-manufactured 1 space rack units? Would you be willing to share your schematic for use with the transformers you are ordering. I really don't know where to begin designing the PS section.

As soon as we get the specs on the xformer I'll draw up a schem. Should be pretty basic.

I have 2 1 space chassis. One was an old CSU that I gutted, the other I bought off ebay for $30.

www.par-metal.com they have basic 1sp racks starting at $46 each, they will pre-manufacture them with all the holes, but it's only worth it if we order 50 pcs or more......I was going to mill my own but if there is enough interest we could place an order.

there is a picture of the power supply in the files section, 2 100uf @250 in series for 50uf@500, a 15K 3W, 33uf@450 100K 2W 33uf@450

10 pcs from protocase with all the holes knocked out are like $160 ea!!!

The par-metal units look good to me and $46 is reasonable. Not much of a break though for quantity pricing. It might be best if we just get them individually since mailing costs would probably exceed any quantity pricing advantage. Thanks for the schematic help Bob-I and the reference to the PS pic in the files section Funk.

Wait... how big is this xformer? I was thinking that it would be slim to fit into the 1U chassis. You should only need to drill out mounting holes. I was planning to mount the tube on a piece of aluminum angle laying flat so the chassis can be closed up and mounted in a 2 space rack with an effect. As long as there's some cooling room above it shoudl work well.

THe ones pictured are the real article, I am getting a 1pc sample to make sure on the size.

Glad to see the transformer size as well. Having never seen one before, I was a bit worried too. Funk, can you share some of the details for the units you pictured. Is it correct that Dumble made a couple different versions of the Dumbleator, single and double channel? I would love to learn more.

there are 3 versions I know of, as well as some sub-versions:

The Dumbleator,
The Dumbleator II mono In, Stereo out 2 tubes and a choke in the power supply
A-Box-Later Tabletop version, not sure if it uses tubes or Jfets.

There are also a few Dumbleators out there with a single channel but 2 controls on the recovery....not sure what the other control does though.
