Liking Arby's makes you one of the 1%. Now you should expect unshowered yard guests, like a KOA campground without a bathroom.

It's picking up RF like an SOB. It isn't picking up any stations, but it's VERY willing.

The guitar at about 7-8 and walking up to the head (not playing) completely wide open sends the damn thing into fits. Hairy highend sizzle and muck. Playing it at this distance sounds like the distortion turns into audio puke.

Standing away from the amp gets a mid buzz as if I were standing in a neon shop. When the guitar is turned to zero, no buzz. If no cable is inserted, no buzz.

Same results, all 4 inputs.

Since it is a simple 1987 circuit, it shouldn't need any magic tweaks to be stable.

It's like Arecibo. Should I try for first contact, or change out everything before V1? I have already reflowed most everything from end to end. Maybe running the amp at middle volume with a guitar plugged in while tapping around would shine some light.

I come in peace, but I brought a hammer just in case patience runs out before ideas do.

Thanks guys. Nanu nanu.

Well, sending it to Dave... BUT!

I was perplexied and a little frustrated with my failure, so I went back once more. I didn't do anything different, just took it apart from the inputs to V2 and rebuilt it...

I did it! It's finally clean! It sure feels good to tackle that one. It was annoying, and still not sure.. so you know how that goes. I'll take luck when I can get it. It hisses like any other, but not a dang bit of unexpected foolishness now. I have the sustain, and the feedback that was missing. Groovy!

So it sounds like it was a wiring error or bad joint somewhere?

I think it was a grounding issue at the inputs. It might be a fulty jack that is just working for the moment, but I couldn't make it fail on purpose.. so all good!

very cool. Nothing worse than when a 'simple' amp isn't functioning right.
