So here's a newly hatched one, not too ground-breaking just a straight clone and a refrain of my previous hifi style 5C1. This is for a bud that I owe money to, after 10 years he gets a little amp, not sure if he comes out ahead but it sounds great and it just screams, it's really loud through a G12H30, stomps the 5C1 in jam and volume, though the 5C1 w/ the Edcor is more sensitive and responsive.
This one's got a Hammond 300 series, Allen 8K w 4/8 ohm, NOS tubes, Mojo Dijons (I like). ~ 350V Plate. I really wanted to use a 4.7uF film for the cathode bypass on V1 but only had a 25uF electro on hand.
The 5F1 is just a marvelous circuit, this is my second, if you haven't built one, build one.
Last one for the road, now I concentrate on moving.

Nice build...
I'm sure your bud will be thrilled to get this amp.

Really nice, rp! I might have to do one of those. Can you give the transformer PN's to be specific? Also, it sounds like you've altered the schematic, at least by bypassing the Rk on V1. Any other changes? I like the chassis, too!

Thanks! PT is Hammond HX372X, 620V C.T. @ 81ma., I think they make the same in a 200 series w/o the universal taps. OT is an Allen TO-8C. My 5f1 combo used the Mojo Universal Champ PT which runs really hot and give too much B+ IMO (390V Plate). The Hammond is barely warm. Can't say about the 5K vs 8K debate but the Allen is real good here. I like giving Radio Daze my money for Hammonds.martin manning wrote:Can you give the transformer PN's to be specific? I always add the cathode bypass cap on V1, I think Fender did too but never updated the schematic. It's at 14W dissipation! I should up that 470 to 560 but WTF it's Rock & Roll and Leo never gave a crap either about maxing out Champs. My friend's a house playing yuppie, tube should last him years.
All else is stock, there not much to improve on a 5F1! A nice set of NOS tubes is important, you can hear it in a Champ.

I finished the chassis about three months ago but just finished the tolex today -- still need some corners for the head cab. This is a 2nd/3rd gen hybrid Dumble at 50 watts. The cab houses a single EV SRO 12" and is side ported. I have yet to put it through its paces but all signs are good. Skip
