Vintage cloth wire, who'd a thunk it?

Post by Phil_S »

Here it is, vintage cloth wire, 6 pounds, about to close, already at $172. http://www.ebay.com/itm/6LB-LOT-50s-Vin ... 27bfc870d5

Here, I've got 1.2 pounds of wire I stripped from an organ, some as long as 4-5 feet, others only a few inches, many are 2'-3'. If we use this as a guide, is it possible someone would actually pay me $35 or more for this?

Hmm....on second thought, I'm not sure I can part with it.

I'd miss my wire box if it was gone.

If you had the correct wire guage, colors, and lengths to make kits for restoration work on vintage Fender Amplifiers.. Using some fancy buzz words like "original", "vintage", "correct" (include tone and impedance) and pics with rulers proving length and you could probably get $30+ for each kit. People have a strong desire to keep things original. Restoration companies charge $$$ for this kind of attention to detail.

LOL, kits! Now I get to scour the internet looking for original pictures of vintage amps, use some algorithm to determine the correct amount of wire, figure whether my colors are good enough....I'll have to save this thought for when I retire. The wire is already 40+, so I guess it won't go bad on me.

I think I'm going to build myself an amp with it and have the satisfaction on knowing it's vintage inside. 8)

Include a "Certified Letter of Authenticity" that states that none of the wire has been subjected to the modern practice of being "Cryogenically Treated," which gives the wire a too modern tone.

At $30, the cork sniffers wouldn't be convinced. I'm thinking $150. "It's a small price to pay for a perfect restoration."

most are universal as long as you cover the basic sought after amps.

Bassman, Champ, Twin reverb, deluxe, and Princeton. and add 10% all other models are covered.

You can quickly trace out the colors and sizes needed by looking at any fender schematic/layout the wire colors are labeled. visualize the total dimensions and rough in length. when in doubt error on the high side.

4Ft - Green heaters
3Ft - Red
6ft - Yellow
2ft - Blue
2ft - Orange

I believe I can supply 3 sets. Blue is the limiting color. I have 6 pieces in the 14"-18" range. This is all solid core push back wire and it's in perfectly good condition. I started out making light of this, but, now, seriously, what do you think might be the real eBait price point for a wire set? BIN $50? For that sort of money, I can get all the wire I'll use in a lifetime!

I still get to keep a bunch of it (no blue, though) including all the white with colored marker stripes.

Selloutr: you have probably been inside many vintage amp. Alas, I am an amateur and I only get to see this stuff on the internet. Thanks for the specs.
