I am planning to build a 50W amplifier. two 6L6 output tubes, three 12AX7 two 12AT7 tubes and a Solid state rectifier.
I am going to get a black chassis, so there will not be a cut-out for the power tranny, I can easily drill some holes (aluminum chasis) for the tubes and pots, switches, etc. So, I am looking at some stand-up type trannies. One from Edcor looks about right:

Has anyone ever used this Edcor for a Dumble-ish 50W build (two 6L6)? Last build I used a Silverface bassman chassis and the Hammond 291EX power tranny. I really liked that tranny, perfect voltages I was looking for, and it runs cool. Here are its specs:

But, being that I am going to be drilling my own holes into the blank chassis, I am not set up to make a power tranny opening for the Hammond, and so, I am looking for an upright-mounting power tranny similar to the Hammond one I used in my last build.
The Edcor has a lower current rating (200mA) on the B+ conpoared to the Hammond (276mA), but heck, the Edcor is 200mA at 330V. So, 330V * sqrt(2) * 200ma = 93W. Seems like 93W ought to do it. It's heater (6.3V) current capacity is 6A , no problem there.
any opinions on this. I am looking for roughly 460-470V plate voltages on the output tubes, and a solid 50W.

I have had good luck making rectangular PT cutouts (with rounded corners) by drilling a hole at each corner and "connecting the dots" with a jigsaw. You could use a straight edge to guide the saw if you want it to look perfect, but if you're careful, you can do a pretty good job freehand.

Part of my question is also so that I can get a feel for how ((i.e., learn how) to pick the right power tranny for a given build.

To get 460-470V at the plates you are going to need a 350-0-350 PT. A 350V PT should get you between 460-470. Matter of fact, I built a 50W D'Lite that runs around 465-468V on the plates from custom Heyboer piece that used a 350V PT.
At a 75% duty rating, 350V@200mA would support around 52watts

I ordered some Edcors and all were a bit high. After talking to RJ, he told me Edcor rates their PTs loaded, not unloaded like most others, so you can expect a ~10% higher V output on the secondaries. This was about right with the three PTs I've used from Edcor. Not a big deal but you might be closer to 500 in that regard if this is indeed the case. Anyone else see a bit higher V than expected using Edcor?
