Emailed this guy for pictures, his response:

Thanks for the Email, it is a Black one Like SRVs, It was made for a Major Artist, used on platnium records. Entertaining north of $125k, if interested in buying it I will send you pics.
Thanks,
Gary

Not surprised he didn't provide anything except more BS. He has zero feedack - pretty clearly a scam, and not a good one.

You should have told him that you represent a Major Artist looking for an amp to use on platinum records, but he already has a black one. He really needs a purple one for the next platinum record.

it's a constant problem with shit like this.

Basically. If it has value, fly out and buy it in person (PERIOD) when you are spending $10K+ what's $300 for a flight? If they give you some bullshit line, it should put up a red flag and just walk away. Never get so involved you can't see clearly. Anything deal that seems to good to be true most likely is.

Just looking at this add it screams FAKE!!! not one thing about it is a comforting transaction. Questions email me? really? If you don't have half a wit about how to list a product seriously why would anyone be dumb enough to buy it. If it's a legit Dumble why the need for privacy? the listing would not be pulled, the amp is authentic.

NO good can come of this. just watch it'll end in an off shore transaction using western union and your personal email will be spammed with junk mail, penis pills, and porn.

Why even post this?... use some common sense.

Is this the same joker that tried to sell the Odyssey and couldn't supply pictures?

Here is what you have to keep in mind.

If this amp was real and used among professional musicians. First it would have a private waiting list at least a dozen names long waiting to buy it. No need for a public sale. Secondly if it did go to public sale it would not be smart to list it on ebay. think of the seller fees paid to ebay on $125K. high dollar, high priority items go to christies for auction or a national music auction like the ones where a number of high profile instruments are auctioned off so reach your target audience.

I'd say that you are interested, but would need to authenticate it and start that process with some pictures. Can you squeeze some photos out of this cat?

The Odyssey guy actually sent me photos. If the photos were of his amp, it was real. Just not a very interesting piece for the price. I respectfully declined as it wasn't for me at the price it was dangled for in my opinion.

There are scammers everywhere. Being a CL user, I would say that one of every ten items that strike me as possible "bargains" is a scam. Everyone wants to find bargains, so that's the easy target for scammers. The "Too good to be true" thing is a continuing motif for scammers.

There are killer deals to be had out there. You just have to know your shit and never let emotions get in the way of business. Never over pay. Always validate all info on big dollar transactions. Know what you are buying. If you know an expert, use them. If anything feels fishy about a deal, walk away. If someone is selling legit gear, there is no reason why they should hide things from a potential buyer. I have had some successes find great gear for killer prices, but it's a ton of work to find them and often disappointing.

Basically, be careful and spend wisely.

And it wouldn't start at 99 cents with no reserve.

Even it it was real(it isn't, you can find the image he used on google) it wouidn't hit the kind of money he's talking.

Ha yeah well you guys wont be laughing when I'm selling clones of my new sss for $6k at the end of the auction!!! Muhahaha!!!

I can't believe ebay hasn't pulled that yet. Its funny even to think someone with ANY Dumble model would go to ebay (of all places) to sell it. Ebay has become a last resort for me. I think I sold an old Blackberry on there last month. Probably should have posted it here first.

Taylor, there have been a few authentic Dumbles sold on eBay.
Probably not as many as there once was due to scams.

I'm sure this one is the latter, because why would you only post one crappy picture of the logo?

Not sure how this scam would go down but eBay needs to stop this crap in it's tracks.
Funny how this loser can post this auction but Heaven forbid a person listing a partscaster as a custom Fender Strat like guitar or T Style both of which were closed on me when I tried to sell a couple guitars.....

Tom,
I don't doubt it at all, I used to exclusively use ebay to sell items, but now the fees have gotten a bit out of control and there are so many better places to sell things that I avoid eBay at all costs. I'm just saying if you were resourceful enough to get a 150w SSS you should be sharp enough to figure out a better way to sell it than an online auction

Actually it is his first transaction, maybe he just doesn't know about the fees yet

Actually, the final value fee is capped at $100.

Can you give me a list of these places?

I have used eBay for YEARS & had good results (being VERY careful) but the fees are simply getting too high. Plus, there is no longer ANY seller protection.....only the buyers can leave feedback, so you have no idea who the bad buyers are anymore.

TIA for any info anyone can provide for other options of buying & selling! G

for basic items craigslist, meet in person if you want to bring a friend, try it out and know what you buy before money changes hands. If it's a high priced item or you want a second opinion meet at a music store or service shop, same as buying a used car. have it looked over.

or

auction houses for high ticket items.
consignment at a high profile music store ( high foot traffic )

you pay for these services but they both offer you a contract and safe enviroment in which to sell top dollar equipment.

you might only pay a flat $100 selling on ebay but you are also forced to use paypal, that is where it'll hurt your wallet. 3-7% of the transaction depending on what type of sale. Then some items can be taxed.

here is what you have to keep in mind. the seller of the SSS is in Hollywood. the amps not worth $125K on the best of days, even if SRV left cloneable DNA on it. The seller has plenty of opertunity to sell the amplifier locally it's not like the amplifier is located in IDK? IOWA that would be a need to use the internet. this is a scam.
