I must apologize, I just found out on pretty good authority that Billy Gibbons uses 7sReeltarded wrote:rp wrote:Wow, you really are reeltartedReeltarded wrote:EB .008s on every electricJust an affectionate jibe

I will still be able to zip along whan I am 70, and my vintage stuff will still have original frets. Why would I want a string to dictate what is possible? You need a little resistance.. that's all.

Re: Electric Guitar Strings
Yep, the Rev. Billy G uses 7s and Tony Iommi (tuned to D#), Alan Holdsworth, and Brian May all use 8s. Fantastic players all!rp wrote:I didn't even know 7s existed, he plays tuned down too, now that's slinky. He certainly has no weenie tone, so I must sadly stop razzing people who use super light strings not cause I believe I'm wrong but now they can always throw out the Billy Gibbons thing and I must shush up.

Re: Electric Guitar Strings
Billy G does use light strings. He mentioned that it was on BB King's recommendation. If you watch some video of Billy, you can see that he has a VERY, VERY light touch. I don't know how he manages to play slide on them. I wonder if he does. Also, I can't say that I have ever seen him strum chords. It would be very difficult to do 16th note funk strumming on 7s. Light strings are good for some types of playing and not so good for others. I love 8s for Albert King licks, but they are not my preference for general playing.
