Looking around for an affordable and reliable replacement for Sprague caps. I noticed Mouser lists the ESR for a lot of their capacitors, whats a good ESR range for bypass capacitors?

Lower ESR is better unless there's a specific response you want to emulate ... which you can do by adding a Series Resistor anyway.

(ESR + the R component of ESL) * ripple current is the power you're asking the package to dissipate. This sort of thing matters at high currents (SMPS filters) and high frequencies (SMPS again).

As the dielectrics dry out with age, the ESR goes up, and that heat is what makes old caps vent.

If you're curious, the manufacturers' data sheets have frequency repsonse plots - you can see the effects of ESR and ESL, and that package's critical frequency where the impedance is at its minimum.

I put Sozos in a 72 Super Reverb to atone for my earlier sins. It was night and day better than the 716 orange drops. No more ice-pick in the ear.

I have some blue Astrons but not many and was just going to use 715 OD but lately I have seen people post OD do not go in Fenders.

I have two NOS Diaz Fender Twin Reverb loaded boards and they have OD caps?
