Going through the member list and got to Texas and thought "WOW there are alot of fellow Texans on here" than got to amount of posts and thought "WOW there sure are alot of Texans on here that have never posted". May just be me thinking but I think I wouldnt get on a forum if I wasnt going to communicate or if I got on to get an answer I would thank them for the answer them delete my account. Just a thought.

I think you have to join the forum in order to see the pictures. No harm in that as far as I can tell.

Re: Fellow Texans
I can see that point Gibsonman63. I am just used to the other forums (car and gun) that I'm on and everybody post a HOWDY on the newbie page at least to introduce themselves. Just a difference in interest I guess but no harm no foul. I did notice however that you have posted alot so Howdy Fellow Texan.

People join and never post all th time. I run a php board for kitesurfing in chicago chicagokitesurfing.com and get registrations all the time and no afctivity. I think people have an idea or thought, then as they register and stuff comes up they say, i'll get back to that, and never do. I dont remember but does tag have the admin manually send confirms? Or is it automatic? If manual, that's prob a big reason cuz people get sidetracked and getting for an email confirm a day later is too long to remember why one wanted to join.
Re: Fellow Texans
I lurked around here for about 6 months before I ever posted anything.
This is a great forum, is generally very civilized, but can also be really intimidating. There are a lot of members here who REALLY know their stuff, and are far more qualified than I am to comment. As I learned more, I was more willing chime in.

I actually find it pleasant that people would rather listen and learn. Rather than feel compelled to make their presence known.

Re: Fellow Texans
Every once in a while somebody pops in on the forum, interjects with this or that or posts a new topic that has already been discussed, doesn't like the answer the get and gets all huffy and banishes this place. I did it somewhat recently in the Dumble forum by bashing Ceriatone and getting some guy all butt hurt (and also caused the "keep Ceriatone discussion to a minimum" sticky
) and dismissed this place. It's not my problem that the guy can't take a little flak!
A new user here "diagrammatiks" was quite the opposite OTOH. I said something or another to him just to instigate (it's a middle child thing). He quickly called my bluff, I apologized and he's turned out to be quite knowledgeable about his stuff. We even made an agreement to swap some caps only a day or two after I rattled his cage.
In other words, we are generally a very welcoming forum but every once in a while somebody comes in expecting free advice and gets their ass handed to them. It can be intimidating with so many knowledgeable builders on the forum but we are all here to help. We are ALL for others learning and growing but it's up to the poster to do the research (or at least click the "search" function and look for a while) and ask educated questions. When somebody comes in asking us to do all of the work for them so they can reap the benefits, we aren't so willing to oblige. Even people that I invited to this forum came in, rubbed a few people the wrong way and didn't last very long around here.

I think only once has someone suggested I hit the books a little harder...advice well given and taken.
The experienced among us are very patient as long as someone is using their head and willing to learn.
I always appreciate it.

+1 for thatbillyz wrote:I actually find it pleasant that people would rather listen and learn. Rather than feel compelled to make their presence known.
And Cliff... You are so right... people with easily bruised egos beware. If you are willing to do the work and take the criticism there are plenty of people here that will follow your project through to a satisfying end. In general though, I have found the members here to be very helpful when compared to some of the other forums out there.
By the way... thanks to all of you who have helped others here!

I got my dose of Texas pride the other night- Lyle Lovett was in town. Always a great show and an awesome band. As in the past, Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkle were both there. Those two have been playing together for more than 40 years now!
