power trannies

Post by jestaudio »

The Badcat clone is starting to come together nicely apart from sourcing a trannie at a decent price, having decided the output trannie is far more important than the power trannie its left me with not a lot of wonga for a trannie, the spec calls for 325-325, 6.3 and 5v with 240 primaries , any suggestions on a nice sturdy trannie would be appreciated, the more power handling the better i would have thought(the amp is cathode biased 2xel34) :)

I think the problem is that he's in the UK. This means when they attach the duty, the price will probably double. He needs a UK or EU supplier, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think you will find a better price/quality point than the IGMT-M4550R on a new PT with those specs, but you run the risk of your PT being even better quality than your OT! Check your current demands, the 150mA could be on or under your needs.
I currently have a paid up order in with IG, but have yet to see the transformers turn up so I cannot vouch for them yet.
Dealing with Bluebell audio is a pleasure and you can get all sorts of others parts you may still need from Philip at good prices.

We had a post from an Italian member recently who said that we never saw his transformers from IG.
Just saying.
I was aware of that when I placed my order, so it is wait and see...
If the OP is tight for cash or patience right now then Bluebell Audio would be a safe and sure recommendation and the postage will stay in the British Isles.
It's Friday afternoon, time for the pub,
cheers, tony

IG used to be Shinrock. Ingo, who I don't know and have never dealt with, seems to have a reputation for winding the best transformers on the planet. However, he has also been known to be slow as molasses at delivery. The production/delivery problem was exacerbated by personal matters that are freely disclosed on his website and that should now be behind him. So, if you order from him, I guess you should expect to wait. If you want it now, maybe it is best to buy elsewhere.

here is the italian member that was complaining about Ingo.
I recentely saw in the sloclone forum that somebody else was complaining about the same issues, and Ingo himself just jumped in saying he was sorry and he was going to make a iron set for this guy.
But i don't know whether it' s a fake news or not.......
still waiting my irons since 4years at least.
As said , the quality is high, but the delivery is not certain. The payment is more than certain BTW

edit: in Italy we have different transformers builder.
i'm having good luck at reasonable prices with www.inmadout.com.
drop him an email and ask for what you need. The quality is more than fair, at least for my own needs.
Ciao from Italy.

Sorry for that, but nearly all customers came back to me by e-mail after the death of my daughter.
Please let me know, what do you want to have instead of your ordered PT, because this type is out of production. I have both types the IGMT-M36R and the IGMT-45/50R in stock.

Kind regards
Ingo

Go with something like a 373CZ from Phil at Bluebell, customer service is 100%,
as long as 173mA will do you.

Just call him up and he can go over the specs with you.
