Markers for Distinguishing White Wires?

Post by The New Steve H »

I found some neat shielded Teflon aviation wire at a nice price, but it's all white. I'm thinking I should get some cheap permanent markers and mark the insulation after I install this stuff. Good idea, or shameful idiocy? I don't think it will heat up enough to mess up the pigment.

My other idea was to put a few tiny colored tags on the wire.

Sharpie doesn't take on Teflon wire, trust me here. It will wipe right off.

Man..."Teflon"...I should have seen that coming.

I guess tags would be okay as long as it's not a huge project.

I found a bunch of shrink sleeve which came in 11 colors to handle just that situation. Just a short bit at the end of the cable will do. A trace wire for heaters may be more of a problem,

Yeah I guess I shoulda mentioned heatshrink as well. It stays put pretty well on Teflon. You have to shrink it around the end or even around a part if you can to actually grab something though, otherwise the heatshrink will slip around worse than a drunk girl in an oil wrestling competition.
