layout

Post by jestaudio »

I,ve been sorting out a bom for a bad cat clone i,m looking at doing based on the ceriatone layout, due to size constaints and having a blank chassis kicking about can anyone see a problem with having the trannies mounted ala JTM style rather than through the chassis, this would at least put all the tube sockets in a straight line simplifying the heater wiring

I tend not to feel bound by the original layout and I think, in your particular situation, the use of stand up trannies what you need with a smaller chassis.

You will benefit from being diligent about the "rules" of lead dress, as you are departing from a tested design. I think, as long as you take care to do things the right way, there is every reason for it to work out.

Start by placing the trannies at 90 degrees to each other and then employ the "headphone trick" to rotate the OT for the least hum.

cheers, i will be using the "soldano" style of heater wiring as i did on my Dumble clone which in my experiance works well and makes for a neat lead dress, especially as i can then get everything to cross at 90 degrees, the trannies will be at oposite ends off the chassis and i,ll get the choke somewhere in between

ya no reason not to use that type of heater wiring.

the bends and crossings involved in getting the twisted pair right is just a mess.

I usually just elevate it a bit at the end. works fine.

heh...true. it's not just bout the bends though. there's really only 2 ways to do it right and a million ways to screw it up.

especially in the slo with the preamp tubes in the front of the chassis. There's only one real way to do twisted pairs in that situation.
