More specifically, I've been using a dollop on the bottom of radial electrolytics to secure them down to a garolite turret board. Does anyone think the silicone touching the leads will actually corrode them?

Corrosion issues are more prevalent in a closed device, think of a small hand held waterproof device, like a GPS, if it is closed / sealed before the RTV has fully cured.

Thanx Martin, that is more like it.

While I agree the acetic acid issue is more important in a closed application, I'll not take the risk if I don't have to.

It out gasses methanol but fully cures in 24 hours and I don't build amps that fast!

We use the (cheap) GE 100% silicon stuff in aquariums. The acids would kill the fish if we didn't let it cure for 24-48 hours. After that it's all good. I'm thinking it would be the same for amps.

The reason I bought the weatherstrip adhesive was because it came in a fairly small tube and the price seemed reasonable.
I don't know what kind of outgas emanates from it (yet) but it did say "safe for painted surfaces" what ever that means.

As far as I know the RTV3145 is non-acidic, it comes in clear, grey or black. Also RTV738 (white) is similar. We use these products at work. You can smell the vinegar smell of the acidic silicones. The RTV3145 is definitely safe around electronics. The 738 we use to glue nicad cells into battery packs.

I couldn't find locally the GC 19-155 that Martin recommended or the one that John recommended.

I bought GE 100% Silicone II Clear. Outgasses methanol and ammonia, not acetic acid, so I'm happy. 80 ml for $4.59.

Ahh, it's the ammonia that would kill fish...that's the same stuff we use on our aquariums. My bad. But still, good stuff.
