There's another one out there that tours the custom shop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTi8ISIx ... re=related
Abigail Ybarra, who appears in the '59 tour at 5:56 is still there (6:17 in the CS tour), and speaks on the vid! Nice to see Freddy T (RIP) there too. Really cool, thanks for posting.

There is another clip with some of this footage and an interesting comment to the effect: the early Fender guitars made in the 50s were hand made by cheap unskilled labor. They weren't made by angels or by craftsmen with magic fingers and perfect pitch. Same is true with the pre-CBS amplifiers. They were market quality amps built fairly rugged for professionals. They didn't match capacitors and handpick carbon comp resistors. They used current production, reasonably priced components. Although, things seemed to be made with higher quality back then, before high labor costs rendered many repairable items disposable :(

It's a good video - reminds me of a better time in America.

Cheers,

rob

Here is a video of the modern plant, with computerized routing machines, etc. There is still a lot of "hands on" labor.

Interesting to see the difference over the decades.
