Traynor Bassmate YBA-2B
Got a Traynor YBA-2B Bassmate on the bench owner said he thinks the OT went bad.
Ground wire for OT was loose and it arcs on pin 7 of left 6BQ5 only with different tube inserted as well.
Hammond OT so I will be ordering one of those. Kool little amp. He also brought a Gretsch 6170 Bass amp as well.
Schematic was laying inside chassis probably had been glued to top underside. So I scanned that for reference.

Traynor is really nice about putting the schematic on the lid of the amplifier. It's really helpful until a part gets to hot and burns a hole just where you wanted to look
you should check that dynamite stick while you are in it.
It's noise floor could greatly improve with a Cap job.
Hammond is the original OEM manufacture of the iron for Traynor.
The bassmate is a great little amp.

Yeah that cap is 40/40 and is going on the way side maybe I should replace it with another of the newer sticks
I saw some like that somewhere. May AES/CED.
The owner was talking using as a bass amp and I said heck no it would make a sweet guitar amp.

F&T makes a 33md + 33md @450Volts I've used them in other traynors they worked great. the best part they allowed me to use the original clips to mount it.

You could get some gain out of it if you rework those cathodes on V1 a/b .
Re: Traynor Bassmate YBA-2B
Billy,
Yeah I was trying to get in touch with him to keep him advised on fix costs and to see if he wanted to get rid of it so I can play with it.
I saw those F&T not sure which way I will go yet.

Those old Traynors are badass. I just reworked a bassmaster and it sounds better than a plexi marshall. The Transformers are beasts and that choke is giant. loaded with mullard mustard caps.

No doubt. I did some work for a customer a while back on a 68/69ish Bassmaster, not too sure, pre bumper trim and big iron, SS rectified. He wanted me to do the "plexi mods" you read about all over the net. I talked him into letting me proceed with caution and just rework the PS to be more guitar friendly. Glad he let me take that path, this thing is a fire breathing monster, actually very "wreckish" but with more meat! He's the type that flips lots of gear, thrill of the chase an all that stuff. Anyway to get to the point it's now mine as I asked for dibs when it was time to eventually go on the block as I knew it would. Everybody that plays it tries to buy it on the spot, this one is magic I tell ya and it ain't for salebillyz wrote:Those old Traynors are badass. Not sure about the dual axials but most of the dual 32 F&T cans I've picked up read close to 40uf. Probably close enough for rock and roll anyway. Just Radios has dual 40uf cans, just be aware that Canada post to the US is SLOW right now, pay extra for air if you're gonna buy from those guys. Great place to buy from btw, it's not their fault but fack my last order took a bit over 3 weeks, I was cheap and went for the ground option.selloutrr wrote:F&T makes a 33md + 33md @450Volts I've used them in other traynors they worked great. the best part they allowed me to use the original clips to mount it.

Since this one has SS rectifiers I would use a Dual 50/50 can.
An Adjustable bias would be handy too.

There's a great amp hiding inside every one of those tough old bastards, some just need a little bit of work to get em happening and some need almost nothing.
Could you share your secrets around the PS changes?
I have a YBA4 that just kills with smallish preamp and TS tweaks.
Still I'd like to learn from you

.........Now where did I put it?
Re: Traynor Bassmate YBA-2B
This Bassmate uses 6BQ5 rather then 6V6 like others I have seen.
The OT is Hammond A1339 and the Triode 5E3 OT is 8k with 8ohm tap perfect for this amp but I need to see if the owner wants me to drill more 3/8 holes and go for the 18w Marshall OT instead with 4/8/16.

Most of the traynor amps use at least one 40+40 @ 450v can (dynamite stick) You can order them from Arizona - Tubesandmore.com get them in a couple days UPS ground.Nigel Tufnel wrote:Not sure about the dual axials but most of the dual 32 F&T cans I've picked up read close to 40uf.
