Re: First Express clone ready :o)
Couldn't help it: I'll have to post a bite of the sound. A buddy of mine wrangled together an Airbrake-like attenuator and brought it to rehearsal. Didn't work as well as a Hot Mama kit, dynamics was gone and playing was like trying to bake buns from concrete.
However, my buddy said to play something and he would record it. So we wanked a minute or two and it was fed to a minidisc straight from the mixer. What puzzled me was that the taped sound is actually nice through 2X12 even heavily attenuated - and I know it's so much better straight or just moderately attenuated.
Never mind the really sloppy and fucked up playing - I'll post something way better later - but listen to the sound; what do you think? Does that sound anywhere near Trainwreck Express to you?

Great sound ! Thick and singing, superb

I just built Hotmama2(beta) but haven't had chance to crank my clone yet. It will have to wait for the next weekend

What speaker (+combination?) + rev/del-effect was on the clip ?
Thanks for shearing,
mat
Re: First Express clone ready :o)
Thank you kindly Dana and mat. I'll post better clips soon and I'll bet you can hear the dynamics wiggling my ears

Heavy attenuation makes the sound a bit boomy; lower midrange peak seems to change and treble goes fuzzy. With mild taming the clone is a growling beast you can direct with pick attack and volume. Even the place you pick reverberates through.
mat, the sound is my the guitar in my avatar (mahogany bodied strat w. maple and rosewood neck, pu used was SD Screaming Demon), self-built 71x41x30 pine cab w. two Eminence Legend V12A in series which means it's 16 ohm, Wreck clone (everything straight up, brightness switch not activated) and an Airbrake-like attenuator from electronics store parts. No effects whatsoever. If you hear reverb or delay it's just the mixer. Mike was some Shure 57 type El Cheapo.
And I will check the B-voltages this weekend (promise!)...

You haven't lived until you played your Express clone cranked through a 4x12 with the bright switch activated using a Strat bridge pup.

Re: First Express clone ready :o)
I am actually use to the volume now. Now it only bothers my wife and kids!

Re: First Express clone ready :o)
No harm done, then
...but seriously, the sound is dynamic and the clone easy to play when cranked but attenuate it enough it becomes unresponsive and stiff. That's why I'll have to get the Wreck out only for moderate size clubs. Small ones shatter.
