Ahhh, i think im being a bit tightass I hve a 16 inch chassis to work with, just figuring that its a small 5 watter and wanting a really easy to dial in grab and go, rather than a tweaker. I mean I LIKE tweaking but for a small club gigger, you wanna just get it quickly into place.
But you are right, build it at spec, then dial in what is needed against whats not.
After all, dont wanna be called a one trick pony do we!

Yeah I have revised my rear panel and sent it off, hope I can catch it before they cut it. Added the OD Master and an HRM lift switch.
Still only 4 pots and 4 switches on the front.
Going to get the rest of the cab parts today and finish that off.
Also build the PS and HRM boards.
Mat have you given thought to what operating point you are gonna run the PP 86 at?
I built a killer 15 watter recently, maybe the best little amp ive heard actually. Running 335V plates on that one. I understand the theory behing lowerr plates in single end, but just curious of you are thinking lower plates or higher, as im not sure how dumbles generally run the powwer section.

I will use PT that has 3 secondary windings. I don't have earlier experience of that trafo but will report when it will be ready.
I got free afternoon today and drove to band rehearsals pit and recorded real quick (but long) demo of the 86 Special Jr running in to nonHRM (50W) power amp. The second demo is the Jr by itself.
The feel with nonHRM PWRamp is naturally much stiffer. The 86S is much joyable to play. The power amp seems to play a big role on the playing feel.

Just finishing up the cab today, did an oval port for the back, and should pick up the faceplates in a day or two. Put the OD master on the back panel.

I know the pre volume is a trimmer, what is the other one that you have as a trimmer? The OD level?

You should have same sounding amp as mine. I encourage to experiment with speakers to get optimal sound for You.
I'm not yet tried the amp with dlator style circuit. I've built the first kleinulator (dumbleator with jfets) years ago and I will test it with the 86-Special..... when I find the time.....

I got the chassis made by my work mates wife She is very skillfull metal worker. Will post pics of the working process too.

My amp is at the rehearsals place (please give me a better word for that ) now. The amp has evolved many versions and is nothing pretty to look but I will take pics if someone wants to see the insides. We play next time at sunday. I try to remember to take few photos then.

After listening the song couple times I can but wonder how I keep sending these raw clips again and again. Well, no one to blame but me. Too many and too high notes all the place. Next clip with more economical playing
