Re: PTP Marshall?
Should I or shouldn't I tell that PCB is PTP? Traces run from one point to next......

Re: PTP Marshall?
Are you saying your read it all?
I'd like to see any of the PTP-police replace a tube socket in something like this:

I got that!

Sometimes, usually when I have things that I'm trying to avoid doing I watch for Godwins Law to manifest on the Gear Page. It's only a matter of time.......................
Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies)[1][2] is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990[2] which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[3][2] In other words, Godwin put forth the hyperbolic observation that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope— someone inevitably criticizes some point made in the discussion by comparing it to beliefs held by Hitler and the Nazis.

Last pict is of my Bassman/Marshall built 20 years ago. First thing I ever built ptp after I had two previous builds w/ boards squeal on me and I didn't have enough knowledge to trouble shoot. A tech I asked for help told me to try PTP next time and showed me an open Matchless. Inspired, I dove into a 17"X6" Bud box I had without planning or a drawing, just started drilling, punching, and mounting terminals strips at 2AM till sunrise. This layout has been the basis for all my ptp amps for years now.
It's not too tight to work on at all. It's little worse than a board build and the real trouble is at the terminal strips as I insist on connecting as I was taught - that solder isn't glue and you must wrap the lead well around the terminal, and I also wrap around the buss bar. Makes it hard to swap parts and often causes the destruction of what's coming off - like nice old 1W ABs from mauling and heat. If I just laid the lead in the terminal loose like a turret or eyelet service would be fine. PIs are also always dense, I think they will always be a bear PTP. The other bugger is that I often insist on NOS caps, if I stuck with tiny 150s or Xicon brown turds these layout would be totally serviceable.

Interesting. Where I am we have modernized this rule and replaced "nazi" with "taliban". Makes it easier for the young generation to relate to. IMO neither term deserves a capital first letter .dreric wrote:Sometimes, usually when I have things that I'm trying to avoid doing I watch for Godwins Law to manifest on the Gear Page. Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I really hate those kinds of discussions. Polarization is never good in any debate, and how manufacturers use some "buzzwords" is just stupifying.
I've worked a long time on trying to build PTP amps that are easy to service. It all started when I first worked on a Matchless HC30. It sounded nice, but when I opened it up, I thought "I can do that better than those guys" - the result is here. Not to toot my own horn:

There was a gun thread at TGP and we were discussing gun control.
I mentioned that Hitler first mandated gun registration then later siezed them since they knew where they were.
I got a warning for it, that it was political.
Hmmm, imagine a gun thread getting political.

I had one of these amps but mine came out of a filmosounds movie projector, Mine was also full of bumblebee caps, and it had a ef86, I stripped it and put the transformer in a 18watt with out really checking the voltages, thinking id get maybe 340 350 on the plates, i fired it up and checked the plate voltage and had over 500v on the plates
of those poor el84 they turned a molten brownish purple and it looked like the glass was quivering befor my eyes the pt was small like a blues jr, but yes they crammed a lot on crap in that 11x4x2 inch chassis i still dont understand why the thing had 3 6v6
