Doh, -Andy- Fuchs. Just haven't seen a white one before (got Fuchs myself, but in black and snakeskin ;)).

All kidding aside, do you have real speakers hooked up to your computer or just those toy ones? Everything sounds much better since I hooked up my old Kenwood and AR speakers to the sound card. :wink:

Wish I could tell ya who I made that white/vox cloth rig for, but you'll find out someday, eventually, when it surfaces again. Actually, Vox has basically told all amp makers to stop using the cloth under threat of a lawsuit, so it's one of the last units out there (from us anyway) using that pattern.

One of these dyas I got to pry loose the cash and buy a Fuchs. It's just one of those great amps where if you're into great amps it fills a slot. Homebrews are nice but it's also nice to have something with no compromises and no rough edges.

On tweeds: I was just over to Southworth Guitars, yeah I get around. I finally got to check out the legendary Amp Wall and while there's no tweeds on the wall Fender's entire '58-59 amp line is represented down on the floor with earlier and later examples thoughout the shop. Their amp collection IS NOT FOR SALE! I was hoping for a few more really good vintage Strats but they have anything else you can think of, if you're looking for a 335 or an LP Junior they have a few.

Those sure are some minty tweeds!

Indeed, my friend, even in headphones or my setup with the subwoofer. I'm not saying it sounds bad or anything but it just doesn't curl my toes the way it does in person. That being said, I've been doing some research and apparently Page was using his hiwatts from '70 through Sept. '71. You can see them "on" and plugged in at the RAH show on the DVD...and you see them in those pics from the Bath festival (though they don't look plugged in). Anyway, the John Peel show on their BBC Sessions that's live in '71...the more I listen to it, the more I'm apt to believe he was using the Hiwatts. It sounds more Hiwattish than Marshall to me and that was April '71. I just need a constant reminder of how insane that thing sounds aside from my who live at the Isle of Wight DVD. :)

Judging sound quality from a DVD or any recording for that matter is no way no how an accurate representation. What you'll hear is that amp through that mic in that room through that board on that day re-mastered to whatever the producer and the engineer who remastered it wanted to hear later. God help you if they did it Friday night after mastering rap artists all week! :lol:

I spent years trying to cop tones from LPs only to find out that even if the recording was relatively transparent there's still a massive amount of compression required to make it work on vinyl.

Like I said the only true comparison is side by side live and our little AmpFest accomplished that task brilliantly. The way I figure it is that if my ears can handle a multitrack mixdown and hear when one channel is a little hot in the mix I can tell what sounds outstanding even in a room full of loud amps.

I'd like to see it more like a wine tasting where we get more musicians through the doors, using the winemaking analogy it was like a vintner's convention. I can think of a dozen musicians who would jump at the opportunity to sample all those tones, I'll be sure to bring a couple buddies in the Spring.
