Amp Robben Ford used on 1992-1993 recordings
Anyone know what amp Robben Ford was using on the Robben Ford and the Blue Line (1992) and Mystic Mile (1993) recordings (especially "Politican" and "Worried Life Blues"? I mainly want to know if the Dumble was used if it was an HRM or non-HRM?

Ask the question over on Robben Ford dot com. There is a BB there where his tech hangs out. He may or may not remember.Tonegeek wrote:Anyone know what amp Robben Ford was using on the Robben Ford and the Blue Line (1992) and Mystic Mile (1993) recordings (especially "Politican" and "Worried Life Blues"? I have met/asked Robben personally wether or not his amp was HRM, He literally has no idea, all he said is that most of the time It sounds great in Alexander's living room, but it sounds like crap when he gets it home! I'm pretty darn sure that it is a Non HRM with the Skyliner mod. His more recent tones like Tiger Walk, Jing-Chi, and Keep on Runnin say HRM all over them IMHO

A few months ago, I looked at that board a while. RF's Dumble was with HAD for a major reworking. Artists are never satisfied with the status quo I suppose. He's very big on that Zendrive pedal.

When I saw Robbin with John Mayall's tour last year he was using a rented Super Reverb with a Zen Drive, the big one not the little onejaysg wrote:A few months ago, I looked at that board a while. I saw Robben on the same tour at the Hemmen's Auditorium in Elgin, Illinois. I was in the second row center and he was using the original Zendrive (the little box). When we spoke with him at the break, he said he much preferred the original Zendrive to the Zendrive 2 (the bigger box) and the Mosferatu. His Super Reverb was miced from the rear and there were comments on other forums that his tone in the mix was trebly and thin. That was not my experience at all. We were hearing him directly from the amp and his tone sounded fat and smooth with a nice bite to the top and tight thick lower mids and bottom.Bob-I wrote:When I saw Robbin with John Mayall's tour last year he was using a rented Super Reverb with a Zen Drive, the big one not the little onejaysg wrote:A few months ago, I looked at that board a while. He told me that he was never satisfied with the Dumble at low volumes and John didn't like loud music. He also said that Alex was constantly in his amps tweaking.

I hear ya brother! We saw him step on the Zendrive all night, that's the only reason I know it was the small box. Not that it matters what Robben plays through. I thought Buddy W's tone was great that night as well. Great Strat tones when he played with Robben and then he got a huge fat tone with the Tele-style guitar.Bob-I wrote:Same experience, only I thought it was the bigger zen(?). From some of the pics of his 80s amp, it seems to be 6L6s. Anyone can confirm this?
