Am i losing it or are the winged c's now selling for about double what they were? I bought a number of the EL34's up till about a year ago at around $30 a pair. Now i'm seeing them at double that along with all the others like the 6L6 i was looked to possibly try. But not anymore ! what the $%#@ is going on?

EDIT: i should have said MORE than double. I think i paid about $38 a pair and now they're $89 at tubedepot where i usually buy them. What, did they start making them out of solid gold? geez...

Yep. They have gone up a lot. Considering the competitive pressure from New Sensor, this sure looks like a going out of business strategy for SED. Shame.

What kills me is the 6L6 are said to be the best new production 6L6 and since i began using and liking 6L6 in my amp i was really anxious to try them. But risking almost $100 with shipping in hopes i like them that mush just ain't gonna happen. If they're asking that much then yeah, one way or another i gotta think it's the death blow.

It'll be cheaper (a little) to buy them from Antique Electronic Supply/CE Distribution, since they are the US distributor. Spring for the 24-hour burn in.

yeah, but they are still high there and i also need to combine the order with some caps, and they don't have sozos while tubedepot does. i'll just stick with the JJ 6L6 for now.

I wish they would stock the Sozos, but I bet Sozo can't give them enough margin to make it worth their while.

Yeah, I've noticed that myself about the winged c's. Still, they're a great sounding EL34. Although, the last pair I ordered, one of them had some tiny "shrapnel" floating around. I guess as long as I can see it laying there in the bottom, I'm ok. Still, for 50.00+ a pair, it bugs me.

Bought a pair of the Tung Sol EL34B's for about $28 for the pair, now they are twice that! I really liked them and was planning to buy another pair, but not when they are that high.
