I've been putting this off for a while but I just have to try one of these. I've been wanting an amp to run el34s or 6v6s but it seems the Liverpool is a real favorite for some of you. For you gentlemen that have both, which would you keep if you had to get rid of one. Is there much difference in tone or volume?
What are good tranny's for the Liverpool?
EXPRESS or LIVERPOOL?

I have the Express and the Rocket. My favorite (right now) is the Rocket. But there both great. Get the iron from Moose at Toneslut. His iron will work has taps that work for all of them.
Never tried the Liverpool but I heard it is a more well rounded amp. If thats what your looking for!

Re: EXPRESS or LIVERPOOL?
I only have one Express but can state that it is really a riff and solo player's amp. Not much headroom to speak of with humbuckers. If you want clean you can have it but the same settings blast your ears off when you turn guitar volume up.
The clips I've heard reveal that Liverpool loves single coils and rhytm more than Express, which is the ultimate for humbuckers. Liverpool is more dynamically bouncy, Dr Z Prescription -like.
Express sounds to me - funny - like a Vox with generous dose of steroids. As a lead player I really love this amp and get best lead sounds ever. It all boils down to this: what's your poison? C&W, pop, grunge ad such or growling dogfight with Express?

Oldie newbie.
Re: EXPRESS or LIVERPOOL?
It's got to do it all. I've got nice old vintage gear but all I seem to play is my 18 watt Marshall clone. It is just such a playable amp. I probably use mine different than most as I set up with a medium volume & distortion & use pedals for overdrive instead of diming the amp & tweaking the volume knob. Old habbits die hard.
I probably don't need an Express or Liverpool as much as I want to build one if you know what I mean.
I like a smooth musical complex tone. Think Knofflers last 3 cds. It sounds like either amp is very expressive but the Liverpool might have a sweeter vibe to it?

Re: EXPRESS or LIVERPOOL?
Make a Liverpool. The express is awesome but unusable in a small club. It is a lead amp. The Liverpool has great cleans and likes Single Coils as well as Humbuckers. The Liverpool sounds like "Little wing" with a strat set for clean sounds. It gets a good mid vol crunch for rythym work and it screams when cranked. It also has a usable bright switch.

Allynmey,
Is the express tamed much/well with 6v6's? ...Or could it be used effectively in smaller clubs with 6v6's?
