Shield are fine. It's teflon and nearly indestructible. Tried all my guitars including start w/HB bridge.

Well, i lifted the board again and hit a number of solder joints, replaced a ragged PSU resistor and generally moved things around and it's better. Still not as quiet as it was but it's now tolerable. Curious, but tierd of messing with it so since theres not much i haven't done, i'm zipping it up and i'll live with it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Do any of your components have particularly short leads? If the amp worked fine before you touched it up by hitting the solder joints, do you think you may have overheated something? Possibly, stray piece of solder somewhere? Loose screw?

You said you "swapped out every tube". Does that mean each one was replaced with a known good tube? Or did you just move the same tubes around?

Assuming it's somewhere in V1 as seems to be the case, (read back a bit) i already swapped out every cap and resistor. I also swapped every tube with known good, not just juggling them. I even threw new tubes in the PA that i had waiting in the wings. But like i said, it's quieter now.
