Hey...you're BOTH making some good points.
If parts are not a problem I don't see how one can't make money building amps if you have a lot of orders.
And good support people are needed in orders, parts, receiving, packing, etc...But you can train almost anyone to do those jobs. I know...I've trained housewifes, college kids, semi-retired, general laboreres...etc...to do those jobs.
I think I'll work on a "What if" scenario to see how much one could make if they ran an amp building shop selling just 5 amps/ week, 50 weeks/yr...leaving 2 wks for vacation.
Does that sound reasonable?

I ordered a d'lite in September of 2009.. Still waiting.
I referred a buddy to Moss and he actually got his amp. I have kept my mouth shut for a long time.
totally bummed. I like Moss but he has said to me on so many occasions that I would get my amp "next week" so many times it seems pretty hopeless.

How come he still accepts payments if he's 2 year behind.
Remember when Hermida or Cochrane stopped taking orders (and payments) to catch up building their popular pedals?
If Moss takes your order and money, says a couple of months and no amps has showed up in 2 years he's in big trouble. Maybe he needs the money

Re: About Moss of Brown Note
Moss gave me enough headache so far. I mean he almost drove me crazy. The worste shopping i have ever experienced in my life. He does not keep his promises. he takes the money first, he does not tell you when he will deliver. As you say it takes months and months before he delivers. Even his kits takes almost a year to deliver let alone the assembled amps. This is really insaine. He does not return your mails sometimes for weeks, he keeps you waiting in the dark.
If you have read my earlier post, there I said that I found Moss and and he promised that he will deliver the kit at the end of december. What a fool I was to believe him after so many BS. On 3rd of January his reply to my mail was so;
" The truth is, it didn't go out last week as promised,
I have my assistant Cody working on this today,
when he is finished assembling the remaining components,
I'll check the contents carefully before packing it up,
and notify you, accommodate any special instructions if needed,
and follow up with the shipping confirmation number.
I appreciate your willingness to work with me through this final stage.
Thanks,
Moss"
well this one of his cliche replies, like;
Catching up on open orders
I'm going with a different type of tube and scrapped your other build
Chassis are on back order
I had the flu
My Son had the flu
I need to burn the amp in so I need another week
Your amp is shipping this week (that was more than 10 months ago.)
The best is when he sends a tracking number to get you off his back-
Also BS-
I am not happy to write this but I told Moss hundreds of times that I will have to do this if he keeps behaving this way. I know there are lots of people suffering dealing with Moss, trying to get their amp or kit out.
I hope this topic will help other people who are considering dealing with Moss. I hope they share their experience here. I know most of you like me hesitate to do it thinking that it is not a good behaviour but if Moss do not give a damn for himself why shoud we. He has no respect for the bussiness he is running as he does not have respect to his customers. It is important to keep your words, promises when you are doing bussiness.
all the best.

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

Re: About Moss of Brown Note
Brown Note Amplification customer service is the Absolutely HORRID!!! Arguably the worst in the business of D-Clone amps. I'm not just saying this from thin air, but from my own experiences and also after linking up with other customers with Brown Note Amps. The testimonies from others in this thread are not shocking if you follow this company, you'll know the horror stories floating around just ask. Next time you see a Brown Note on Ebay, shoot the seller a message or just ask around.
I've been quite cordial, civil, and nice about my experiences with this organization but the crap stops here.
To me we all share the same problem...Brown Note.
We all were thrown under the bus and I do not appreciate that when I spend thousands of hard earned dollars for quality gear, and you get lied to. Speaking of the lying part not once, not twice, not three times, but four times...hell maybe even five times...I can't remember I have to check my texts. Really, I'd buy a Line 6 like my other cohorts if I wanted to not be supported like I was by this company.
Moss had my amp for 103 days and over the course of 103 days he was mostly ghost. For about the first 40 days we no contact. I first spoke with him over the phone, confirming that the amp was being sent his way, he had me under the impression I'd have the amp back in a month. Noooo!.... *insert sarcasm here* That was not the case...
My amp was sent in under warranty repairs after being diagnosed with a factory design flaw which was discovered after another unrelated incident. I never really got a chance to speak to him again; once again because he pushed my amp off due to the LA Amp Show...because I'm reasonable and actually a nice guy, I said cool, he promised next week it be done.... Another 30 sum-odd days after that I had to leave the multiple neglected voicemails, texts, emails, and etc.
Moss hardly ever responded unless I really left a very direct voicemail, which I personally consider nagging along with my frustration and threats of creating an Anti-Brown Note Webpage. (I'm a Computer IT as well)
Now I'm in Philadelphia and I'm quite certain, I'm 19 by the way, that there is no reason I should be nagging a grown-ass man about his business practices from all the way across the country. It's not my place...and further more I was raised better than that...
But....I can still raise the question, right???
I have so much to say...lol
My amp is not the only amp with "internal circuitry demons"/design flaws that needed to be cured by exorcism. My amp is a Late-09 Production One-Of ODF100 with Active FX Loop. The loop was causing the amp to oscillate at high volumes.
I'd love to talk about this...keep it coming...by the way this post was not out of anger but out of concern for the business...
Because I care...

Re: About Moss of Brown Note
I must have gotten lucky and ordered my D'Lite kit as the planets aligned. However, this was a couple years ago. I had a good experience, and found all the support I needed at the brown note forum, which seems virtually abandoned these days. I wish Moss all the best and sincerely hope that he can turn it around.

Re: About Moss of Brown Note
Why Thanks Guys!!!
The amp soon will not be such a problem for me, I'm probably selling it. I must admit, she sounds great though after the repair stlll I little louder than I like...I think I'll put some TADS before it goes.
Re: About Moss of Brown Note
You know, this is such a damned shame. I'm selling off some gear I'm not using and have quite enough EL based amps. I was really thinking about trying to get my hands on a ODE 44 kit and either have a friend who, like many in the current economy, is hanging on by a thread. He's a tech who could build it for me and I'd be helping him out, moneywise. It was that, or having the school up in the northeast (see TGP) who are teaching kids electronics by having build amps. But the general consensus is that it may take YEARS to get the kit from Moss. I have followed Brown Note for a long time and would love to try my hand on a Foxy kit or whatnot. But I can't afford to throw good dough into an internet "black hole". Such a shame because those who do own Moss' product generally swear by them.
Re: About Moss of Brown Note
I thought it would be fair to follow up and say that Moss has fully refunded my money.
We were clearly both disappointed as I know I really wanted the amp he was to build for me and I know he wanted me to play that amp.
Figured better to cur our losses at this point.

Does your mother know you talk that way??
