Interesting stuff...

Assuming I am going to run the A470s standard push-pull rather than UL, are there any advantages to even using the OT or should I just get a more standard guitar amp iron?

My reason for considering the a470 was mostly because I have never used one and have heard good things. Secondly, I was looking for a nice full bottom end on the amp.

Thanks for the input.

If it's built with the proper special winding techniques and high quality laminates like the original A-470 units then I think you will hear a big difference. I don't remember what they specifically did (maybe a special style of interleaving) but these transformers are known for having a great frequency response within their rated power handling. Just remember that the more you push the transformer, the more it will saturate and the less fidelity you'll get through.
