Doner amps - top 5
What would you list as the top 5 donor amps to go Dumble. It could be as simple as a usable chassis and good transformers. Talking 50-100 watt.
Re: Doner amps - top 5
Hey Ange, hope you are doing well. In my opinion, there are a lot of good donor amps out there, you just have to look. If you want one that already has a layout done for it comb through the files section - Henry(Heisthl) has a bunch of different layouts posted for conversions he did to Peaveys, Carvins etc. There are also some layouts posted by him and others for Fender chassis like a Twin Reverb, silverface bassman etc. - although if you find an amp like that in good condition it probably won't have the cost saving advantage that you are looking for and you also may not want to destroy a vintage amp like that. I find that if you search Ebay and Craigslist for "amp* broken" "amp*fix" or amp* needs" you can turn up some surprises. I picked up a trashed siverface Dual Showman reverb for about $200 a few years ago although it was missing the OT and tubes. I always thought that the old Fender tube PAs would be a good dumble donor and you can find these for a good price still sometimes ( I think they have the same type of Twin reverb iron that Dumble used in many of his amps ) For example : http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-PA-135-All-T ... 230d8b6e64
Some of the old Peavey combos that only had a tube output section can be had for cheap and the iron has the extra juice for adding the 3 preamp tubes no problem plus the control panel is plenty wide enough for an ODS.
Ok, this would not be a good donor amp, but check out what "amp* needs" returned on Ebay - local pickup only though, anybody in Illinois? :
http://cgi.ebay.com/CORDOVOX-ACCORDION- ... 3a611ab7ab There must be 60 preamp type tubes in the tone generator ( AU7s I would guess) plus the speakers and cab and amp for only $100
Anyway, good luck on your donor search hope this helped some.

Nice one
Hi Ryan, doing well thanks. Really been enjoying the Rocket Reverb build. How about you. Yes I have seen H's magic on those donor builds. Just wondering if their are some sleeper types that might yield a good platform, so thanks for your recommend. Seems like its about a grand to get the components and chassis for the 183 builds.
