Must be the company firewall, I'll check it out. Thanks bob:) Tried to email you back, but it was rejected as spam:( Anyway... figured out how to edit the text and such.. visio is pretty cool once you start learning it..

I don't know why that would happen. Try me at bob-ingram AT patmedia DOT net.Icetech wrote:Thanks bob:) Tried to email you back, but it was rejected as spam:( Anyway... figured out how to edit the text and such.. visio is pretty cool once you start learning it..

Well, just between you and me I won't be going that route again either unless it's for a money build.Icetech wrote: i cant justify 50-100$ for a faceplate:(

Bosses wife had a laser printer that does true black:) Just got them back to me and they look great.. had her do 3 since you can fit 3 on a sheet.. gives me fudge factor.. will put em on tonight and see how they look.. not sure if i wanna cover them with urethane or just leave. em... might just leave em..
P.S. she printed it on label paper.. peel and stick faceplate:)

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
well got it on.. and what a pain lining it up and all.. took a few tries..
heres the before.

and after
[img:640:480]http://mywebpages.comcast.net/roadrebel/faceplate2.jpg[/img]
Not so great.. but better.. im gonna fix the alignment on a few spots like the od level is off bout 1/4" and prolly do the kinkos thing:)
P.S. sorry for the crap pictures.. my camera blows:(
P.P.S. don't pick on the snakeskin, i got it that way:) in no way could i retolex even that.. i need the cab bout 6" taller for the reverb tank anyway.. My favorite tolex is the brown tooled leather stuff.. i have a princeton that has been cut down to head size covered in it...

And i broke the damn thing.... 1 6L6 is running VERY hot to the touch.. like burn your fingers hot... other one is cold.. not ice.. but not hot enough to make you pull your hand off...
low output volume. swap the tubes and the problem stays with the socket.. voltages are same on each tube. bias is same on each tube within .1 set to -39.
wondering if i shorted something pulling the pots to put the faceplate in, but i can't find anything wrong...

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
Probably just a loose pin to the heater filament. Before doing anything drastic, try cleaning and tightening all of the sleeves in your tube sockets, especially if they're the original Bassman sockets.
I kinda like the snakeskin.

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
all new ceramic sockets.. but im gonna tighten the pins anyway...
Starting to get frustrated with this thing:)
BTW norm, right before the PI you have a 4.7meg going to ground.. i'm assuming thats a bleed off? And if i wanted to elminate the presence control (for testing purposes) what should i run in its place to make it fixed..

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
Maybe recheck your solder connections at the bad tube. If the tube is cold, the heater isn't doing its job and you won't get the tube hot enough for electrons to flow from the cathode.Icetech wrote:all new ceramic sockets.. but im gonna tighten the pins anyway...

The 4M7 can be eliminated. It's a relic from a previous design and I just overlooked it when I redrew the layout. It's not doing any harm, but it's not helping either. To eliminate the presence control, just run the 390R directly to ground.
Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
Thanks norm will do that tonight:)

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
you say one is cold but was wondering if it lights up at all (?)Icetech wrote:1 6L6 is running VERY hot to the touch.. like burn your fingers hot... other one is cold.. not ice.. but not hot enough to make you pull your hand off...

Also, just a guess but check the screen resistor (the 1k or 470 ohm). Check that it is the correct resistance and connections are good. good luck
Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
No, the one tube isn't totally cold, you could pull it out and hold it in your hand though.. but warm.. its lighting up... the other though is like.. if you run your finger up the side of it running.. when you get near where the metal inside touches the glass you will scorch your fingers (which to me is kinda normal from my other amps too)
The volume is maybe champ level... and event he clean channel is distorted.. whats got me stumped is that the voltages are ok and each tube is the same... starting to really question my OT...

Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
what are voltage reading at pin #4 of each 6L6s?
Re: dumble/bassman faceplate layout
Pete, you are good... i didnt bother with pin 4 on either before.. since i don't know what pin4 is for:) anyway.. on the HOT tube.. 430v at pni4..
on the cold tube.. 0-300MV sorta rises from 0 to 300 when i use the meter on it.. and MV not V... so..
And son of a bitch... as i was writing this, i went to check the 1.5k resistors to see if the one had cooked.. and low and behold... the solder point for the resistor at pin6 is broken
so should be fixed in a few mins...
This is the second solder point that has gone like this on me.. i REALLY have to start taking my time and make sure things are right:(
thanks a ton, i was bout to check everything from v1 to the rectifier... was looking forward to a long night...
