Tweed Champ OT Wiring

Post by Firestorm »

Tweed Champs typically have the ground lead on the OT secondary connected to one of the transformer mounting screws. It works (until the screw loosens up), but why do it that way? It would have been just as easy to run the wire inside and connect it more conventionally. But Fender seldom did anything by mistake. Even the goofiest things usually had a rationale.

Any ideas what could justify this wiring approach?

Probably cheaper, quicker/easier.
They get more product out faster and with less expense than having that extra wire.

Ya know, I think it would have been cheaper/easier to do it the "right" way. They're already running the other lead inside the chassis to connect to the speaker jack. Why not run them both through and connect both there instead of making the connection in two places?
