I'm planning a 5f1 clone, and am trying to spec Edcor trannies. The OT is easy: http://www.edcorusa.com/products/483-xse10-8-8k.aspx
But I'm having trouble with the PT. Choices here: http://www.edcorusa.com/category/72-xpwrseries.aspx
Closest looks like this one: http://www.edcorusa.com/products/681-xp ... 0-240.aspx
but it's rated at 200mA instead of the 70mA that the recommended Hammond 290AX is.
Is there a good Edcor choice for a Champ?

Re: Edcor power transformer for Champ clone
When I was looking at the Edcor offerings I had a hard time figuring out what was what on their website.
I had trouble seeing any PT that provided over 200ma of current.
Seems as if most of what they sell is low wattage stuff.

How about the http://www.edcorusa.com/products/640-xpwr047_120.aspx
It only 10 volts off as far as the HT is concerned. The one that you found doesn't have filament or 5 volt taps. This is also x mounting (stand up) and not lay down like a champ if that matters.

My Edcor PT for the 80w Express and Rocket were 450mA

This is similar to the Heyboer upright piece that I'm using in an 5F2 parallel 6v6/6l6 harp amp. I'm 20V hotter, 30ma heavier in HT current and .5A heavier on the other windings. That Edcor piece has plenty of gumption for an 5F1 circuit without being overkill.
If you ever decide add another socket or if you wanted to run a single larger tube, you will have the extra current. 120mA will allow you to run two 6v6's, one or possibly two 6l6s. The stock 60-70mA spec won't cut it with a single larger (6L6, El34, KT66)tube or parallel tubes.
The only caveat is that it's an upright mount, not laydown like the tradional Champ.

So if you get a standard narrow-panel Tweed chassis, it won't fit the hole, right?ToneMerc wrote:The only caveat is that it's an upright mount, not laydown like the tradional Champ.
