Fuse wiring

Post by Oswald1958 »

Basic question.....I've seen pictures of black wire or white wire from mains cord to fuse holder and then to power switch. Should common go to fuse holder, or hot? I want to get this one right before I wire it.

I fused the hot and ran neutral straight to the switch. Phil

The fuse is in series with the power transformer primary and the on/off switch....so, technically speaking, it really doesn't matter which side of the line you put it on.

I always read that you put the hot to the fuse, then to the on/off switch. If you put the common to the fuse and switch, in case of failure you'd have the hot where you don't want it. Maybe that's over-cautious but it's what I've always done.

Thanks guys...I see Francesca has black wire (I assume hot) to the fuse. My power cord black wire is the hot. If you've done it that way.....I will too. Thanks again.
