I had only very good results with both their standard and custom wound output transformers all the way up to 150W. Best price/performance ratio IMO in EI core transformers.

I have one Edcor OT, their 70W rated 3K5 primary, putting out 100W clean from a pair of 8417s with 520V plates, in UL mode. (28.4V RMS on the 8 ohm tap). The OT is rated for 30Hz-20KHz so is easily 100W for guitar. Weighs 11 lbs!

Excellent tone and performance, old style build that reminds me of 50s and 60s Triads.

Used on in a few builds. Both PT's and OT's

The PT's are rated fully loaded so consider that. I think the OTs are really good too.

I've used about ten (pt's and ot's) so far and had nothing but great performance and "as stated" voltages. Plus, as amazing as it sounds, A REAL, LIVE person answers the phone! Incredible!

Do their PT's run cool?

I was a bit surprised how hot my new Magnetic Component PT is getting in my 100w ODS build.

I can touch it but I can't leave my hand on it.

I have run the Edcor in a Four EL84 Rocket and a 80w Rocket Reverb four EL34's.

When time permits I am experimenting with a Dumble ODS non HRM, with four 6V6's into a Marshall style chassis tubes up.

Very good transformers to me.

Structo, I've posted about the heat in those transformers before, but I've been reassured by the company the heat is totally acceptable. I don't mean to hijack the thread, so here's a thread from Metroamp where the representative from Mag. Comp. actually discusses the issue - should make you rest easy.

I have one of their OT's in an Express clone. It is mostly a Ceriatone with component value substitutions and basic mods/improvements. Wish one of you guys lived near me so you could play/give me your opinion on this amp. I am not really sure how these things should sound/play.....

As far as delivery times go, the longest I've had to wait was about five weeks. That's a long time for sure but the nice thing is they told me, at the time I placed the order, that it would take five weeks for that particular tranny. I really appreciated their honesty up-front. I hate being told two and it takes five.

A lot of people swear by Edcor. They make an incredibly solid product and their prices are competitive with Mag Comp and other guys. Highly recommended stuff for a reason.

To the guys that have used them, do you find them hifi-ish in any negative ways - sterile, lack of color? It's a rhetorical question since you are all very pleased but fear that they are too good is what has kept me from trying one of their OTs. In other words, do they rock & roll?
