Here in the south when you see a deer on the side of the road it is to get a nicotine fix. They eat the butts! What really pisses me off is when some moron feels the need to dump his ashtray in a parking lot for all of to enjoy.
I've got blisters on my fingers!
Re: stunned and bewilderd
Fer cryin' out loud, when I told Andy to "clean up his act", I meant it sarcastically, hence the smiley face I included. In reality, I could couldn't care less what Andy does with his butts. I generally try to use an ashtray, but I confess to having tossed a butt out the window on occasion. Had I known this would turn into some pseudo-political discussion, I never would have commented.
Regardless, cops look for any excuse to execute a traffic stop. Fact is, tossing a butt is littering and it's illegal. What the trooper did was petty, but within his right. It sucks, to be sure.

No worries.... it is garage talk...
sometimes you light the bag and toss it on the porch...
other times you open the door to put out the fire ...
only to step in a big pile o crap.

Pardon me,
I am reading a lot of reasons to be pissed at cops or to delcare the"dreaded Republican" and all sorts of complaints...............but in the end BREAKING THE LAW IS WHAT YOU DID!!!!! deal with it and learn form your error. You litered and thats that.Pay your due's and get over it. Complaining about the wrongs of the police in an open forum when you were at falt does nothing for improving how you appear.

Andy! Please.. don't kid yourself with the political party pointing.. they both suck equally at the same things, for all the same reasons.
What we should be discussing is where to meet when the internet and electricity stops working. I think we could have a couple peeps throw together a steam generator, and be jamming by about 9:30.

Breaking the law.. ehh.. yeah, it's a law.. sounds a bit oppressive.. don't you have a socialist as a senator? I think. Sanders?
Grab a ride on a buffalo, and I'll meet you on the plains.

Re: stunned and bewilderd
No worries. It was a surprise, it seems so easy to run afoul of things.
I live on the edge of suburbia, 25 miles north is bush and paper lands until
you hit Canada. I can still drive all the way Canada and only occasionally cross a tared road.
We just got big boxed in the last 10 years, I got hundreds of acres out the
back door, and for the most part don't have to care, really don't.
There are still places in the states from where the rest of the lower 48 look insane.
I'm sorry you have to live there, must suck. Wall to wall developments,
the traffic, all the debt (try cash it works) All the work just to keep
up on yer payments, just to pretend like retirements worth it.
As you can tell I live in a different America, the FREE side
Why are some so worried about breaking laws, what have you lost.
You do realize that in a capitalist society that the first priority of any
institution is its economic survival, they wouldn't be there if they weren't making money.
Any police, armed and ready to prosecute, really can be seen as an affront to common sensibility.
Less government would be great, but you'd end up with dangerous institutions
existing to survive with no over site, law and order for profit,
its that way now but its held in check by a democratic process,
at least I can still vote down a budget.
I don't have to care and its Sooooo nice, but when reminders happen it
really is a shock, especially after work in the middle of nowhere drive'in
home in crap weather.
fun rant.. But it ain't worth a piss hole in the snow.
I think Snow and Collins are the only democrats left in congress.
Debt free and I vote.

Re: stunned and bewilderd
Oh no! If you didn't have regulations on you, would it make you much different? Would you betray the trust, or harm people knowingly for money?
Of course not.
The laws about things like you suffered bring TAX PAYER FUNDING for departments around the country. They must use the laws to get FUNDING FROM THE TAX PAYERS that automagically increases next year..
That isn't a capitalist idea. It's not a liberal idea, nor a conservative idea. It's a Beeeeyuuuuuuuur-O-craptastic bunch of self-important BS that makes sure it will grow itself 6% per year.
It started out with an indian crying on his horse in a melodious commercial.
When the Ohio River caught fire, things had gone too far.
When you tossed a cigarette butt in a storm and got racked for it.. things had gone too far...
I am for liberty, and I can back it up with how I act every day. As if I am responsible for myself... almost too simple.
Disrespectful robbers and theives will be dispatched! All others are welcome to stop by anytime.

Re: stunned and bewilderd
I never knowingly or intentionally break laws, and have never been in a traffic accident, but when a vehicle I am scared of any cops in the vicinity. I feel like they are out to get me. I'd chalk it up to paranoia or bad driving, but I still feel like a victim.
A couple months ago, I was volunteering at a good cause type event in the big city a few hours drive away. I got lost in some part of the city and was a little distracted by looking at my GPS so that I missed a sign for a playground zone. (I'm all for playground zones), but this one consisted of a playground across a grassy field and behind a fence, and absolutely no kids anywhere in sight. So, even though I didn't see the playground zone sign, I did start slowing down once I noticed the playground across the field, because I started getting paranoid. But it was too late because there had been a young (maybe 20) cop (with his girlfriend riding along with him) hiding on a back street at the very start of the zone. She seemed really excited to be pulling us over and he obviously had something to prove to her). So I got caught going 42 km/h in the start of a 30 km/h zone.
A different police officer that was at the event I was volunteering at and he was quite upset that I would get a stupid speeding ticket when I came to town to help out. (he generally thought traffic tickets in general are lame). He tried calling in to call off the ticket but in the end was unsuccessful.
Anyways, all that is to say that I respect that you weren't pissing your pants in the first place when you noticed the trooper following you. I would have sooner driven myself directly to jail and turned myself in than having the guts to toss a butt in front of him. May have avoided a pistol-whipping...
Anyways, I needed to vent because the ticket was a lot of money that I really couldn't afford at the time. So, now I live in deathly fear of cops. As a Canadian (/communist to most of you) I sorta wish that traffic fines were charged as a percentage of income or something. Your average oil-rich Albertan would probably just laugh at such a fine and gladly pay it as they speed away from the recent ticket.
Anyways, I'm scared of cops. I warning for a lost out-of-towner would have been more appropriate and would have gone a long way to building some mutual respect with the police department.

Re: stunned and bewilderd
In 1978 I was driving thru a school crossing zone. I was doing the proper, reduced speed, when the school crossing guard steps out right in front of my car. She happened to be standing behind HER car which was parked right at the crossing. I had to quickly hit the breaks. It wasn't really close to being an accident, but the dumbass was using her car to block the view of the drivers coming by.
I told her to move her car and she gave me some shit back. It told her fuck off and pull her head out of her ass. End of conversation as I drive away. I got a ticket in the mail pretty quickly. I think I paid $120 fine for something. I realized then that there is no freedom in this country. I guess I realized it so long ago that it is not really a concern anymore.
BTW, dems or repubs, the ALL suck. Party politics ruined this country before any of us were born. Time to throw the tea in the harbor has passed.

Smoking laws = stupid, unfounded, business killing, worthless laws.
Cigarette butt laws are even worse. If you want to cry over pollution, bitch about something important like the freaking tons of oil floating in our Oceans thanks to BP.
Today's police drive right by broken down motorists in 100 degree weather to keep looking for a seat belt or cig ticket. They tailgate innocent people to get you to screw up so they can write you a ticket.
Tailgating is life threatening, and 10 times worse then a discarded butt, yet they feel the right to do it all the time. Where are your morals for this kind of behavior?
It's "to collect and serve" now, and if you agree with that philosophy, you have my sympathy.

I hear ya.
The off duty cop made it a personal vendetta to get me cited.
He drove 40 miles south of where it happened just to sign the citation that the real cop gave me.....
What a prick.
