Starflyer 59 - "You Don't Miss Me"
This is very particular and does not qualify as a known band let alone classic in any sense of the term, but I always loved it ever since it came out when I was in high school before I ever even played guitar.

Still love it and it seems like a classy way to end the song when it seems like the solo is just starting to kick into high gear.
Jason Martin is someone not afraid to work the trem arm on his Jazzmaster.

Trey anastasio
"Julius"

His guitar just sings away. Hoist was a beautifully constructed jamband album.

Anything Wes Montgomery recorded.

Jimmy Herring from Jazz is Dead/Widespread Panic has a phenomenal Violin tone and amazing (sometimes odd) phrasing and can shred in the most musical way I've ever witnessed.

Solo starts at 3:00.

I'm really no fan of this high speed stuff but this one's so crazy ... 8)

Glad to see Trower getting some respect here. It always pissed me off that he was labeled nothing more than a Hendrix rip off. Great phrasing, great tone, and a really wicked vibrato when he chooses to use it.

The one note solo from Cinnamon Girl still gives me chills.
Any early Knopfler stuff, but I'll go with the solo from Sultans of Swing.

If I had to pick just one it would be Zappa's solo in Inca Roads which was excerpted from a performance in Helsinki : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg6X2hsl52E

Others that stick in my mind :

Steve Howe's solo in Yes's cover of Simon and Garfunkle's America

David Gilmour's in Money

Boston's Hitch a Ride

The McCartney/Lennon/Harrison lick trading in The End

Bill Haley and the Comets Rock Around the Clock

Jimmy Page in Zep's Ten Years Gone

Music is the best. F.Z.

Nice to see David Gilmour and Tom Scholz getting some love, around here.

Bostons' debut, "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Another Brick in the Wall" would certainly be amongst my 'desert island' records.

Cheers,
Rob
