Changing tone stack on Traynor YGM4 - insetion loss question

Post by chopstuck »

The TS on my old Traynor isn't very useful to me. When both Treb and Bass are turned down no signal passes. Gain is low when the tone controls aren't maxed out. The schematic is very different from the standard Vox /Fender /Marshall variety. I was wondering about changing it to the classic AC30 structure and values. Since it's located between the first two stages instead of the follower, will the values need to be changed ? Also will the insertion loss be more or less that the original tone stack ?

I had one of those, I went through the same process, I think I ended up
going with a fender treb and bass. But there are many others to try.
If I remember there's a resistor divider before the inverter stage wheres its
pretty easy to adjust for gain issues after the pre.
